Howdy fellas! My first post. I'd like to say right off that this board is awesome and that I respect how things are ran here, including manorisms, code of ethics, response, maturity, etc. I've been watching for a little over 6 weeks now, pretty much reading all posts I can get my hands on, in addition to any other outside sources. I know all the rules and will adhere to them. Through this discussion board, I have gained an immeasurable amount of information, saved invaluable time and money avoiding fakes, and overall got taught as to how to do things the right way while gearing up. I realize I am to keep my posts short (the newbe is already breaking rules!), but I just wanted all on this board to know that your efforts are valued and worthwhile! In comparison to other boards I've ran across (oh God!), you guys are by far the best and have the best shot of keeping any hopes alive of obtaining a good name for ourselves. I don't feel as though I'm in a highschool lockerroom here. Keep up the awesome work for I believe that someday our minority will educate the majority (but then again, if all geared up, we wouldn't look so damn good, couldn't kick the shit out of their sucked-up asses, and steal their chicks, if even only for the night)! Anyways, I have been working out naturally since I was 13 (I'm 29)and studied kinesiology in college. I am more than willing to share any of my thoughts and offer what knowledge I may have, although it sounds as if most already know their shit. I just wanted to offer some positive feedback for all those participating on this board.

My dilema: I have been working out naturally off and on for over 16 years, never so much as to even seeing a pill of gear. I have finally decided to do my first cycle, going with 400mg Deca and 500mg sust (I haven't decided yet what to cut up with in final weeks). I'm 29, 6'2", 230 lbs, with about 15% - 18% bf (I already often get accused of gearin up). My problem is that, through all my research, I have a hard time deciphering which information pertains to natural bodybuilders or those on gear. I have read several articles stating scientific research proclaiming significant gains working out a single muscle twice a week but "not to exceed 3 times per week." What is suggeted for those on gear? Most of you say once a week to avoid overtraining, but I'm getting contridicting opinions. "Pro Bodybuilder" even once said, "there is no way you can lift 6 times a week w/o overtraing unless you're on juice."

It is my understanding that the human body has the most gifted talent of being able to adapt to anything, the very reason for our continued survival. A person doing pushups 5 days a week will eventually go from 100/day to 1000/day. The blacksmith will literally do hammers 10 hours a day, 6 days a week and have 20" inch arms! Why don't they suffer from overtraining? Anyway, I've decided while on gear to follow the board's concensus and developed this routine:

Mon: Chest (12 - 15 sets)
Tues: Tri, shoulder (6 - 8 sets)
Wed: Off
Thurs: Back, biceps (12 - 15 / 6 - 8 sets)
Fri: Legs (12 - 15 sets)

Every exercise is done w/ 5-7 reps, dropping weight by 20% twice, then negatives on last drop. Abs done on M,W,F and calves T,Th.

All feedback is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome aboard bro. As far as your training question, I think that after working out for a while, you learn to listen to your body. Experiment with different splits and see how your results vary, everyone is different. Personally, I train everything once a week, except for calves and abs which I train 2-3 times.

Welcome to the board bro. Its nice to see someone learning the rules before jumping in. Nice to have another old guy around too (Im 31).

B-funk speak the truth.

I have to play with different training splits to avoid injuries. I have to plan my workouts so I dont do two days in a row that tax my lower back.

1 - Legs,calves
2 - arms,traps,light delts
3 - rest
4 - chest,shoulders,calves
5 - back,rear delts
6 - rest
7 - rest

Even on juice, I feel overtrained if I start going 5-6 days per week training. Precontest I might go 4 on, 1 off, but my shoulders are screwed up within two months and need time off when the contest is over.

Glad to see that you are a newbie of some intelligence....we don't get too many as you are probably well aware.

I just wanted to add that abs are composed of a similiar muscle fiber composition as hamstrings. Therefore you should train them with heavy weights and then rest accordingly. I would love watching people in the gym who kill themselves working abs, yet their abs still sucked, while I only did 6 sets of 4-8 reps every 5 days and had them smoked. They all wanted to know how I did it, yet couldn't believe me when I tried to change their thinking after so many years.

Welcome aboard.

Here's the paradox of steroid supplementation. You can do more work without over training, or you can do less work and still get good results. When my body fat was high, I did more work, got lean, but it became such a grind I lost desire. I now work one BP per day, heavy and intense, 5 days a week. Actual workout time, not including warmups and stretching is about 40 min. I have never been bigger, leaner, or stronger - and I can always find the time. By the way, I don't recommend working shoulders and tris the day after chest - these movements incorporate many of the same muscles, and can cause injury or overtraining. Try switching Tues and Thur.
