If you haven't already read my other post, I am giving a presentation in class about bodybuilding myths. I decided that I should also include some common myths about AS to try to educate the public. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. ------------------

"I could be that big if I used steroids." "Steroids are the easy way out" "Steroids make your cock shrink." "Roid Rage" - need I say more "Steroids will give you a heart attack." Most importantly is the general concensus of the ignorant that steroids are evil and are somehow on the same plane as recreational drugs. Later,

First dont address them as "steroids". Call them "Anabolic Hormones", or whatever! The term steroid has a terrible conotation within the ignorant masses! Our first job is to change the nomenclature, before you can change their perceptions! ------------------

I love poeople who say "they look like that cause they use gear"----what people dont realize is that gear alone wont do crap---there is a thing called hard work that gives you results-----it blows my mind when someone says " I could look like that if I took steroids"-----B.S.---You dont have the heart or the work ethic or dicipline it takes.....

You should also point out how ridiculously exaggerated the health risks are! Currently the biggest health risk from well thought out, responsible steroid use comes from the risk of getting fake gear that is not sterile, or plain poisonous! Finally, if the laws were not so screwed up, responsible steroid use could be much more scientific. Imagine if users could get blood work done regularly to monitor hormone balance, livel values, etc... For a great paper that covers all this and more, visit steroidlaw.com. There is a great piece on steroid myths, complete with references to most of the (very few) clinical studies on steroid used for athletic enhancement. Check it out. Also for any users, you should all read the Steroids and the Law section! Info might come in very useful should you be in an "unfortunate situation".

Twisted Steel brings up a very powerful point that I think should be stressed. Nomenclature. The knee jerk reaction to the term steroids is simply too much to hope to overcome by simply stating the facts. People have been trained to resist the idea that drugs are ever beneficial unless prescribed and monitored by doctors, and steroids are drugs as far as most are concerned. The truth is, we are a biological phenomenon that is dependent on certain chemical arrangements. It follows that there exists an optimum chemistry for any given organism. This, in turn, implies that an organism might not currently possess that particular arrangement. Western philosophy in general shies away from the mere possibility of any type of inequality among humans, ESPECIALLY physical inequality. It is my contention that it is the idea of enhancement itself that some find so repugnant. After all, if two people start out equal, and one enhances himself and the other does not, what are we left with? Certainly the two are not still equal in that regard. Our fear of the phrase "better than" not only angers me, but indeed, is the root of all resistance to self improvement. Certainly we can better ourselves, and the scientists that have developed the compounds to do so are to be commended. We live in a remarkable age, an age where we can isolate the chemical depletions and imbalances that inhibit physical (and mental) excellence. The use of hormone therapy, in my opinion, should be introduced in the context of liberating ourselves from nature's chemical oversights. After all, one could argue that it is precisely the function of the mind to identify and correct problems with the body, among many other tasks. But hey, you know me...I tend to fantasize.

I don't know about that. Sure it's true that medical science has been able to isolate most of the different chemicals that regulate our physical and mental states. We would not be having the chemical imbalances in the first place if we had taken care of this world to begin with (no polluted air, water, no ozone breakdown, etc...) ------------------ "Don't eat me! eat Dredd! he works out!" - From Judge Dredd.

quote: It is partially true. I have poor genetics and have never done gear. I have been a gym rat for 25 years and look only slightly better than an average joe. Strong as hell, but only have a 43" chest and 15" arm at 5' 8", 175 lbs. I have known guys using gear that blow by me in terms of size and cuts in 6 months and don't work out nearly as hard.
