Hey bros, the following is quoted from my post in response to the post re:arms falling asleep; "TOS results from the compression of the subclavian artery, vein, and/or brachial nerve plexus. This can happen as the neurovascular bundle passes through the scalene muscles. Another place is between the clavicle and the first rib. Chances are it is due to water retention or irritation in one of the muscles". It can also be trapped under pec minor. For most people it is mostly just an annoyance or discomfort, but I think for the Bros it could mean something else. a) Since usually the subclavian artery is pinched. This means there is less blood getting to the arm muscles. This can result in increased rest times between sets, decreased muscle growth, and weakness due to the nerves of the arm not being able to fire as often. b) It is usually aggravated by overhead work i.e. military press, incline press, skullcrushers etc. That's why people usually feel it after they have had their arms straight in front of them (like driving) or after doing stuff overhead (like hanging drywall on a ceiling, for instance). Sleeping on your side, or on your back with arms outstretched, often brings it on. c) If it is caused by a misshapen clavicle, not much to be done for it. The causes that can be dealt with are tight pec minor and tight scalenus anterior muscles. A pec minor stretch can be found in most books on the subject. To stretch scalenus muscles, depress and retract your shoulders. Then, bend your neck sideways, like to make your ear touch your shoulder. Make sure not to "cheat" and let your shoulder elevate. Next, turn your head toward the same shoulder, keeping shoulders retracted and depressed, and bend forward at the neck like to touch your nose to your shoulder. Next, turn your head to the opposite shoulder and bend your neck back, like to look at the ceiling. All of these stretches should cause a tight stretching sensation in the muscles of the neck. Since you are trying to actually lengthen the muscles and not just reduce the tone, hold the stretches no less than a minute and do them several times a day Here's my disclaimer; as with any medical concern, you should consult a medical professional (physical therapist in this case, since the pill pushers don't know jack about this). Stay huge. Peace! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Bro, I just e-mailed you. I need help with this problem. It's seriously affecting my life. I'm having a hard time typing this. Will the Neurosurgeon be familiar with this? ![]() ![]() ![]()

I don't like bumping my own posts, but if you could see how slow I type you'd understand if I didn't want to write this all over again. Peace! ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
