ok, WTF, I'm tired of this. Everytime I do legs I finish up with calves, and before I begin the calves I stretch em. Well basically every time I start doing them they always cramp up within just a few reps even with very light warmup weight. They catch up right at the top of the calf were it is about to attach in the back of your knee. I also have flat feet and when I start to fatigue the arches in my feet get a sering pain. It prevents me from being able to completely work my calves sometimes. This combined with cramping really limits my calf workout. Any suggestions? Anyone else have these problems?

I know mine will cramp severely at night when I'm too dehydrated. That doesn't sound like your problem though. I assume you are talking about the back of your calf and not your shin, right? What excersises are you using for calves? Have you tried doing them on a seperate day, like with arms, instead of on leg day? Just a thought, give it a try maybe they wont cramp then.

hhmm, never really thought about doing them on a different day. Maybe I'll give it a try cause I know that after I finish doing squats and leg press I really dont feel like doing calves. No, its not my shin, it is the top of the calf about were it attaches in the back of the knee. I normally only do seated calf raises or raises on the leg press machine. BTW-thanks a bunch for your help wondertest, placed my letter in the mail today! But shit, I forgot to order those extras!

No prob. The think your gonna want the most is a funnel. One that will fit inside the top of a 50ml bottle. It comes in handy. The glass rod help to break em up but you could sterilize a thin steel rod or something of that nature. Does your gym have a donkey calf machine? That seems to be the best exercise for me when it come to calves. Second would be the standing calf raises. If you don't have the machine you can use dumbells (of course for me holding a couple 250lb dumbells trying to do calf raises would be rediculous ) Glad I helped. |
