i know if the law wants you bad enough that they will find you. but here's my question anyway. if your source gets busted and you know you're "probably" too small of a fish for them to worry about. what's the best way to cover up your tracks? one example would be email. i've been using hotmail. should i just change the addy? (i prbly would either way) i know that i'd never use the same name or mailing address for the gear shipments because i'm sure they have some sort of customer list with names and addy's that the law enforcement would start to monitor. so i'd use a new name and address. any tips or experince out there?     | ||

Change everything, and get all your gear out of your house, change addys you use to receive gear, email, your name everything. ------------------ | ||

I would say another way to protect yourself with your computer is that when you use e-mail to contact a source (hotmail) use a proxy server.... this post here if a mod cares to look at my IP it will show that I am posting outta Japan... Which I ain't!! ------------------ | ||

Any mail server can use the proxy, a proxy is like you using another computers ip addy to access the web. Has nothing to do with the email accounts, you need to hook youself up to a proxy first then, start anon surfing. But if your looking for security, theres not a whole lot of options. 1st you have to pray that your source shreds all files and leaves no paper or digital trace. But even then the heat would have you addy that it was shipped to along with any other information you supplied in your emails to your source or anyone else. xxxl said it correctly, if they want you they can get you, if it makes you feel better to take some security measures to make it harder to get you then do it. But if they try to persue you, its not like they are going to say..oh damn looks like he just be as safe as you can. Slopain | ||

A proxy is another computer that your computer would connect to that then connects you to the internet. | ||

Ok here is one way how it is done..if you are using Netcape (I don't use IE so I'm not sure) 1. Go to Edit--Preferences..click Advanced--then click Proxies. Now click on Manual Connection to Internet. A box will pop up andin the top line where it says HTTP type in this 63.248.173.52 and for the port make it 8080. You will now be going through a proxy server that is based here in the US. I would only use this when e-mailing or posting to these boards because it will slow your connection down a bit. After you have done this just go to your hotmail account and sign in as usual...when you have sent your e-mail then go back to Edit--Preferences--Advanced...and just click on Direct Connection to the Internet. Anyone have any questions feel free to e-mail me..Slopain was right though..if they want you then they can get you...I think it just makes a little more difficult if you are using a proxy server...makes it hard to do an IP trace... ------------------ | ||

What about using www.the-cloak.com as a proxy server. Is this foolproof or can the feds just track you down through checking their server for logged ip's? Later, |
