does so well in competition???? I knwo the home court advantage has an impact on their performance, but i can't imagine that it would account for the incredible improvements in performance. I'm thinking that the host country typically does better then they normally would because they have easier access to the necessary drugs. After all i'm sure they've all stocked up and they've got all their scientists and chemists right there. So making the drugs undetectable is much easier. My two cents.

E2, did you see the men's triathlon? Awesome.

HEH HEH!!! Yeah the triathalon was awesome!!!! I really enjoyed the beach volleyball last night though, Canada vs US. Canada was down 14-8 in the final game. Canada is seeded 18th in the tourney and US was seeded 6th. Mmmmm well lets just say the Canadians gave a clinic on volleyball for the last points!!! Canada ended up winning 17-15!!!! Nice job boys!!!!!!

They are definately more relaxed due to home court advantage, greatly reduced travel time, no time zone adjustment and sense of pride. I think many things are in their favour that are more important their access to drugs. We all know that the foreigners are taking the same drugs, although with a larger gap between last dose and gameday.

Yep, It's things like reduced traveling time, adjusting to climate and altitude is not nessary. Things like that.

Alot of it has to do with not having to smuggle drugs into another country. It does not necessarily have to do with training in their own gym and time zones....In 1984 the games were in Los Angeles, an athlete from NY would still have a 3 hr time change to adjust to and would not have their own gym, so somebody from Australia may not necessarily be from Sidney, and may still be pretty far away from home.

I dont think the home-court advantage has anything to do with drugs. Anything used has to make it by testing regardless of where they are from. And seriously, would the US give up any advantage? Im sure the US team is taking whatever they want to based on thier program. Ive heard most Olympians use items that are undetectable. The only Olympic athletes I knew were skiers. They didnt know shit about supplements. They just took whatever pills and shots the trainers gave them without asking any questions. As far as they know - they are still natural.

I think it was the Romanian weight lifting team that got kicked out for steroid use. I guess the Austrailians were pissed because they probably weren't using Aussie gear. ------------------ "Faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death."

Come on, are you guys serious???? You think that home court advantage accounts for a 75% increase in performance????? Lets be serious, I will guarantee you that at least 95% of all athletes in the olympics are on drugs, well maybe not the ping pong players, but you know what i mean. Now having your docs and your drugs right there is an incredible advantage. They may be subject to testing but lets be honest testing is a fucking joke. The test molecule alone can easily be modified by anyone with a simple chemistry degree so that it won't show up on tests but will still yied the same physical results. Now having your docs and the ability to inject and use performance enhancing drugs the same day of the competition is an incredible advatage. I don't know why you guys can't see this, open your eyes, stop being so naiive. You sound like the damn media, home court advantage, lack of travel time, time zone change. Hate to tell you this but the majortity of the canadian team has been in sydney for the past month or so. Don't talk about time zone change and travel time, it's all garbage. ------------------

I have a prof. who is on the ACSM's board and he says that anyone who thinks that the olympics are a drug free event is naive. He says that the only reason people like Ben Johnson get caught is cause they piss someone off. No one wants to watch a steroid free anything because it would be boring and no world records would ever be broken. They are hypocrits for saying they want drugs banished but would stop watching football when the heaviest linebackers are around 220. anyhow.... yeah, all they have to do is change one chemical component and the athletes can slide on through. They have a list of all drugs to check for so if the chemical make-up is just a little bit different...they pass. Chemists work just as hard as athletes in the olympics. ------------------ "Faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death."

Curious is right, how on earth do you think that World Records are destroyed year after year, hell that us swimmer I forget his name i think it's HOlden, but i could be wrong, just annihalated the WR for the 400m IM, beat it by almost two seconds. DOn't try and tell me he's just gifted, unless you mean gifted with a great chemist. ------------------

I don't know...I saw some unusual vascularity in some of those ping-pong players forearms. ------------------ "Faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death."

I dont believe the hype. The testing is very extensive. If their was something going on some nosy journalist would have already been on it. It is strange though that those swimmers swim a 400IM and dont even breath hard at the finish. I also dont agree that Ben Johnson got caught because he pissed someone off. Ever see a picture of that guy when he was on roids? It was blatantly obvious-

E2 - I never said they arent using drugs. My point is there isnt a home advantage to the drugs they can use. I dont believe the Australians are doing better because they are on drugs and nobody else is. I think the drugs are being used evenly by all countries. Does anyone really think that the US team cant get the drugs they want into another country? Or that their trainer isnt going with them to make sure they are on everything they need? I guarantee that no athlete is adjusting his drug intake because of where the games are held. Oh yeah - E2 the ping pong players are on shit too. No reason not to be. I do think its very sad to see all of the young gymnists ruining their bodies so young. I watched last night and saw 6 injuries. My guess is even the young girls are on performance drugs.

Fact: More people have been caught for doping this Olympics than any other, and it's not even over! Also, like E2 said, the test can easily be beat if you have a chemist on your side. All they have to do is alter the chemical structure and bammm!!! - You got the next unknown AS!!! I'll quote this from a chemist, "They will only find what they are looking for". ------------------ [email protected]

i think ur right, because alot of athlets get caught trying to smuggle drugs over. and maybe the officals arnt as hard on home athletes because if they disqualified all the home athlets its maybe a sign of disrespect towards the host contry.

E2 is right....look at swimming and track...Olympic champions from 20-25 years ago wouldn't even make the team with times that were world records in say 1976....The human body did not evolve in 25 years and the argument that training and nutrition is better is bullshit...you can only do so much in terms of them...the answer is drugs, drugs, drugs.

Did you ever wonder why the US never gets busted. It's all power. As with everything, the US is trying to control the world with economic sanctions or force. Such hypocrits. The US is one of the biggest dopers secretly, but are one of the biggest anti-dopers publicly. It's all politics. |
