For those of you that are interested, here is the URL to get an Internet Trace Tool. It can be used to find out where any messages sent via the Internet originated. You can download it for free, it shareware, just follow the instructions. have fun http://www.neoworx.com/ ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

been using it for a looooonnnngggg time it is called neo trace and will trace any IP email address and web site address to the original IP. it is kind of cool seeing it go through all the servers to track down an IP ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Luca answered you question about " what is a trace", and I must add, he did an exceptional job of doing so. Luca your right it is pretty cool to watch it trace the IP all of the way through the net. No it will not decode en-crypted or open e-mail, but it gets very close to showing where it originated from. have fun ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

No no no, 45cal! Unhunh, bud. I'm not letting you off that easy! Don't just throw something out there to make us all wet our panties with paranoia, then walk away, bro! Write us a good thread. Give us all the painful details. C'mon, man! Spill! WTF is this thing? If I email you with hush, can someone outside the link track me? All that kind of jazz. You started this, 45cal. Finish it. Write me offline if you have to, but allay my fears, bro. Bjaarki ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Now Now don't get upset or flame me this all that I know. As far as I know it will only find the origination of the IP that you supply it with. What I mean buy this is: If an e-mail is originated from point a, and then forwarded from point b and the e-mail still containes the original IP from point a it can trace it. You can find the IP address of an e-mail buy right-clicking on it then checking the properties. If the e-mail does not have the original IP all you can trace is the place that it was sent from. This all the info that I have on NeoTrace. I hope this answers you question. Have fun ------------------ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Sorry to burst your bubble but.... this only works if the sender hasn't sent you on a wild goose chase to begin with. Just like they have a tool to track they make tools to keep you from tracking. My partner at work wrote a piece of software that can send email from his computer and make it appear as though it came from anyone he desires. Boy that could cause some damage in the wrong hands. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hushmail does NOT send the IP dont know about Ziplip but I dont think it does either, I have been using it for a while its a good program, but Hush doesnot send the IP with the mail, wouldnt be very secure if it did would it, which is the premise behind using hushmail. Thanks, Slopain. 45cal wussed out on us. I've got a Hush account, but I'm pretty much a technical idiot. Somebody starts talking about tracking IP's and I hit the panic button. "ajc" (formerly "ajc1977") knows this shit pretty well, and has consulted to me on email privacy. I just thought 45cal may have known about something ajc was not onto. Thanks again. Slopain, thanks for helping me out, I was getting into trouble here and that was never my intent nor did I mean to panic anyone. All I wanted to do was provide those that were interested with what I thought might be useful info. I never meant to create a panic. Thanks again. Hey just save yourself the trouble. Go to your DOS prompt - the C:\> - or maybe C:\WINDOWS> and type "tracert and the IP address or website you want to trace. For example C:\>tracert 139.134.2.87 or C:\>tracert www.elitefitness.com It will show you the routers that are passed through. Matt ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

45cal: No harm done, bro. I was, in part, just pulling your leg a little. We're still friends. Bjaarki ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

These trace route unix tools will not specifically ID the computer from which the message originated, but will usually get you to the ISP used to connect to the net. Web based tools like tracert.com will allow you to ping the IP from other locations around the world to verify location, confuse security systems, and also will identify the server of origin as gov., edu., or commercial. This is useful, cause I doubt any one wants to discuss gear with someone on a gov. network. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
