yes u need some where around 4000-7000 calories depending on what roids ur using, reson being is because ur muscles require not only protein but lots of energy to repare quickly, and if u dont eat enough calories you might be breaking down more muscle then ur body can fix, and since ur doing roids ur body wants to fix ur muscles right away, and it needs the calories.

Since not too many others are answering...here goes:

Calories are the amount of energy/heat in a food item. You need a calorie surplus or you will not grow. (In other words you are eating more calories than your body is using to function.) I suppose it's theoretically possible to be in a calorie deficit situation and have your body use body fat as energy and protein from food intake to build new muscle tissue. The reality is that that just doesn't happen.

There are a couple reasons why it is important that a significant portion of your intake comes from protein. First, proteins are required to repair and build muscle tissue. Second proteins convert to energy slower than carbs, and are less likely to be stored as adipose tissue than fats.

Like omega44 said your body can use protein for energy but it would much rather use carb's and fat. Also another cool thing i learn in Nutrition class is if you consume too much protein, more than your body can handle, it can convert to fat.
