As you all know i have extremely bad stretch marks (Oh no not again).. well anyway i was thinking mine are still in the red stage where alot of people say they can still be helped to some extent... now since dmso passes stuff right threw your skin its gotta go through the epidermis which is where the stretchmarks are i believe.. so alot of stuff i have read says that some of the hardest things on helping stretchmarks is getting whatever you put on them to pass through the dermis into the epidermis.. so in theory.. lets say vitamin E which helps healing of scars is mixed with dmso and applied generously to stretch marks.. would the vitamin E have more of a chance of getting past the dermis and into the epidermis?? Would this possibly be a better way to get vitamin E to the hotspot.. even retin-a?? Does anyone have any info they could contribute to this.. even though it may not be important to some its on top of my list of priorities right now..

Run a yahoo search on dmso and on transdermals. What they can carry through the skin depends on many factors, molecular size, solubility etc.
This sounds like it may be a good idea.Be careful to start small, don't give yourself a toxic dose of vitamins!

Does anyone know enough about dmso to know if it would allow vitamin E to pass through i did a search on yahoo.. but alot of the stuff was too complicated to help simple minded people like me..

I think dmso carries anything with a molecular weight less than 200 through with it. That is assuming the material is small enough to go into solution with the dmso, which i suppose vitamin e is. Would we want vit e going through our skin though? I don't know.

If I remember right, molecular weights of substances up to 600 can pass through the skin.

Two problems with this idea:

1.) DMSO is damaging to skin. Continuous application to an area will delay healing:

Sjogren F, Anderson C.

"The spectrum of inflammatory cell response to dimethyl sulfoxide."
Contact Dermatitis. 2000 Apr;42(4):216-21

2.) Vitamin E has not been determined to prevent scar formation or heal formed scars. In fact, a recent study showed that the application of vitamin E produced worse scars than the control group:

Baumann LS, Spencer J.

"The effects of topical vitamin E on the cosmetic appearance of scars."
Dermatol Surg. 1999 Apr;25(4):311-5.
