I was talking to a couple guys at a local gym who said they were being trained by a guy who has trained alot of Mr Olympia competitors. Right now he is having them do 10 sets of vaccums, which is blowing out all of your air and sucking in you stomach for about 30-40 seconds, swim lengths of a pool underwater ten times, which they said was to build lung capacity and strenth, also he was having them do about 14 different exercises using reps of twenty to build joint and tendon strength with only about 20-30 sec rest in between sets and they were also doing some intensive stretching. They said they were doing this routine for about six weeks, before they go into real heavy training. What do you guys think of all of this? Is this stuff common? I read about the vaccums in Arnold's bb encyclopedia, but I haven't heard about a lot of people doing them.

Wow..that's new to me but what a great way to stay motivated...."You can do it Rocky" I always wanted a "Mickey" training me..but gear is exspensive enough...let alone hiring a personal trainer. I just pay a trainer to do my bf% and measurements every other month..... Where is this training out of? Chef ------------------

I get my g/f to do vacuums all the time. She can suck and blow all day. I don't know if it is making her stronger but it is doing wonders for me! Heh heh heh!

Vacuums are the only known way to reduce waist size. It exercises the layer of muscle tissue below your abs that is used to hold your stomach/intestines in. Dr Bompa also suggests stengthening tendons before getting into heavy weights. What they are doing won't hurt them, and will help when they start to lift weights. Didn't Arnold do a bunch of pre training before he started lifting weights?

Ontario: Let's hear some more about "vacuums." Post a thread, man, gives us some directions here. Never heard of this, but I always want to know about how to reduce my middleaged waistsize. Mav, you're a cruel SOB! How much will you pay us to keep your girlfriend from laying eyes on your last post? LMAO. Bjaarki ------------------ BECOME SOMEONE'S HERO!

Bjaarki, I got this from Arnold's encyclopedia also. It seems like this is a lost art in posing nowadays. Anyways, here's how it goes: 1. get down on your hands and knees 2. blow out all your breath, and pull in the abs as much as possible- hold for 30sec 3. repeat it a few times 4. when you get the hang of this, you can do it in a kneeling position.

Thanks for all the input guys. I remember reading in Arnolds Encyclopedia a long time ago about the vaccums, but it never really explained what muscle if any that you were working. |
