All it does is increase insulin sensitivity. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I've done my share of searching on this board for more info on Glucophage, but now I'm more confused than ever. Some say it helps puts you in ketosis faster so that you start burning fat for energy........and some say to take Glucophage and carb up to bulk up. Anywhere here ever try it for fatloss? Did it work? What kind of diet did you use? ![]() ![]() ![]()

Consider it somewhat like insulin. It has the effect that Kleen described of helping transport nutrients into the cell, and it may do this by increasing insulin sensitivity. What does this mean? Well to me it means that metformin does not directly burn fat nor increase protein synthesis. But it can be used to lower blood sugar (like insulin) and therefore if you are doing a ketogenic diet, it will speed your descent into ketosis. You could also use it during the carb-up phase of a CKD to aid in glycogen supercompensation. However, your insulin sensitivity shoud already be high after your carb/glycogen depletion. It may induce somewhat of a greater anabolic effect if used with steroids than just steroids alone, due to the synergistic effect of higher insulin sensitivity and AS. So my point is that, in and of itself, it is neither catabolic nor anabolic. But I think it is possible it could be an aid to fatloss or musclebuilding (to a lesser degree) depending on how it is used. I am going to incorporate it in my upcoming CKD to help get into ketosis quicker but will probably stay away from it during the carb up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Metformin has an aspect to it that some would call a problem while others would not; that is it can reduce appetite. Metformin reduces the absorption of carbs from the intestines, thus causing a full feeling after eating a carb meal. Some claim that it simply knocks out their appetite. I would welcome this 'problem'. Metformin is used clinically to cause assist weightloss in overweight diabetics. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
