This came at just the right time, while I was feeling down and tired. I was rooting around in some old boxes of junk and came across a training journal from a few years back. Comparing weights then to weights now gave me a new appreciation of how far Ive come. Heres a few that picked me up...
Barbell Row: Angle Leg Press Calf Raise: Alternating Dumbell Curls: ...and on and on. Now this may sound like just a bragging post, but its more than that. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Keeping a log is definitely a good idea, or at least keep a record of your best lifts, bodyweight etc... ------------------ UP-TO-DATE information on STEROIDS and PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

How in the hell did you get to 275 contest shape by lifting that amount of weight....seems like you should be doing more....but then again, you're proably just flat out lying about 275 contest shape. It's also a shame that you have to resort to that for motivation.....but, whatever gets you going I guess. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Our friend BillyBadAss is upset over some remarks I made about his knowing how to use AS better than the pros. Thats the only problem around here. Some people are too young to be on forums like this, and insist on turning everything into a personal war. Those who KNOW me know that I did compete at 275lbs. had some personal problems that led me to be clean for a long time and drop to 210lbs. Ive gained back up to 260lbs, about 225lbs of which is solid. But either way, Im here to contribute to the board, not wage flame wars... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hey Monster! Nice post, man! I used to keep a journal on my notebook computer when I was lifting in my basement, but it would get ripped off in a heartbeat now that I lift in a gym. I see all these people spending a lot more time with their noses buried in their journals than they spend lifting, and now you tell me there's a good purpose behind that? Sheeiiiiitttt! Gotta go buy a notebook (old fashioned kind, that is), write in it for a few, then bury it and dig it up later, like you did. Bjaarki ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yeah, a lot of people take a journal too seriously! If anyone was to read mine, they wouldnt understand a word. I just use abbreviations and codes to keep it quick. stlgddl=stiff leg deadlift sdrsdb1a=side raise, dumbell, 1 armed ...and so on. It helps me remember what I lifted last time so I dont waste too much time with weights that are basically glorified warm up weights. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Good post! I keep three journals myself. One personal where I record events, personal thoughts, shit like that. The other is my roid journal, where I have made notes, wrote down different cycles, amounts, all that stuff and I keep notes on my progress thru a cycle and side effects and food consumption. Then I have the journal that goes with me to the gym. It keeps all my wieghts and exercises. I usaully fill out my goals before I go to the gym and have it there as a reminder and in case I need to make any corrections, like less weight or more. I thought everybody kept a journal. Hmmm....now that I think about it...I don't ever remember seeing anybody else with one in gym before. OHMYGOD! Am I some kind of freak? Anamoly? I feel so humilitated. But screw em all, so what if they don't have any problems remembering what they are supposed to be doing. I do and that is why I take the damn journal to the damn gym with me. Okay! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Most people don't need a journal because they use the same weight year round and they remember them by heart ![]() My weights are always changing so I need a journal to keep track of my slow but steady progress... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

No, DREXX, for me it isn't like that at all. I workout in two different gyms (the university gym where I work Monday to Friday, and the local "Y" on Sunday), but I can pretty much remember what weights to use, what pins to set in the racks, even what to adjust the seats and stuff to when I use a machine (which ain't that often), across the two different gyms. My weights don't go up like a skyrocket so I need a journal to keep me on track, but they don't stay the same, either. Just slow, steady progress, but I can keep it all in my head, somehow. Keeping a journal is a good idea, all the pros and gurus are always pushing it, so Monster did us all a service by posting how his "blast from the past" has spurred him on to bigger and better things. The old journal I had on my notebook computer would probably do the same for me, except my hardrive has crashed since then, and now I'm clueless. Like I said, gotta get the old cardboard kind, and start keeping up with you guys. Bjaarki ------------------ BECOME SOMEONE'S HERO! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I agree they are fun to go back and look at after 2,5 10,15, years. I was really most impressed by BigPappaPump. He has kept a record of everything he has taken and all his gains since he started...AT 17!! I think he said he is in his mid 30's now. What a great thing for him to have. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have been using a training log for about 3-4 years and I love it... When I forget it at home I feel lost I write down everything. Grip widht, bar I used, seat adjustment... If I feel a sore shoulder I will take note of it. I record my weight, how long the workout lasts... Forced reps, dropped sets Every training I look back at last weeks training and try an extra rep or a little extra weight... I am somewhat obsesive. My gym doesnt have any 2.5lbs plates so I carry some of my own ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
