ever since i've been bulking and eating a lot more, i have had the most horrible case of gas!!
it's constant bloating and discomfort.
what is it exactly that makes you fart so much and how can you cure it? gas-x doesn't do the trick for me.

It's the extra protein that does it to me, especially protein shakes.

Click below, a little search and we get the answer from the man himself. Read what George said about half way through the post.

Gas is produced by the microorganisms in your intestinal tract. Certain foods are more prone to gas production, such as beans and cruciferous vegetables, due to the presence of poorly absorbed carbohydrates, such as stachyose and raffinose. Drastic changes in your diet can change the microflora in your intestines. Eating more protein with a reduction in carbs will increase the numbers of the anaerobic organisms, such as Bacteroides and Fusobacterium, while going back to high carbs will increase the population of fermentative organisms, like Lactobacilli and coliforms, such as E. coli.

The new muscle fitness meg has a 3-4 page article on this topic. I only get bad gas when I'm carb depleting. On my cheat days when I carb up my body doesn't have as much "carb breaking down" enzimes because your body develops an envirnment for the type of foods you usually eat. So in my case it's protien and when I have lots of carbs, my body goes into shock and I get horrible gas.

it's from bad digestion due to excessive protein intake.. Use probiotics to more efficiently absorb the protein.

cockdezl is right- a simple solution to the imbalance is to take a mixed blend of probiotic organisms/fructoligosaccharides which will help to replenish and nourish the microorganisms of your intestinal tract.
