Depends on your current body weight and frame size. If your 300 pounds with a 6% BF then 200 won't get you enough and you will start eating muscle. Need the stats for the correct calorie intake. Normal for dieting is around 1500-2000. But all depends on the person.

A good rule of thumb would be to multiply your body weight by 10-12 to figure out the number of calories you will need during cutting.

what Bchemist said...and be sure to adjust it to the rate of bodyfat you're losing per week. 1 lb per week is great for permanent fat loss
