I'm assuming from your name your a female....Welcome!! Yes, Metaformin at 850mg's twice daily will get you into ketosis much quicker and help you burn fat at a faster rate...from an earlier thread, females should be careful for the fact that Dr.'s are using it to help women in fertility cases.....just a thought...Heh heh heh.... ------------------ Ranger

Thanx guys!! Some other questions.... 1) When should you take Metformin? On an empty stomach or after a meal? 2) How long can you take it for? I mean does the effect keep lasting as long as you take it or does it wear off like Clen? 3) Is there a specific kind of diet to follow when on this, like Atkins, or low-calorie, what? 4) I'm not looking to bulk up, just lose the fat. I'm working out at a gym for about 1 hour everyday so my skin doesn't sag, is Metformin the way to go? Thanks for the help in advance guys!! Sorry for asking so many questions......but if I don't ask the Pros, then who will I ask?

Here are the answers to your qustions: 1. During a meal. This will increase the bio-availibility of the metformin. Also, it gets rid of the cramps+nausea peole get while taking metformin on an empty stomach. 2.The dosage you take does not increase your bodies effectiveness at using the drug. Conversely, its effectiveness stays the same over time. 1700mg/day will increase glucose burned by 10-40%. 3. Do not do an atkins on Metformin. The low glucose levels of this diet will be lowered even more by the metformin, making you hypoglycemic(You will know the symptoms). 4. While metformin is quite good, I prefer Alpha-lipoic acid at a dosage of 600mg\day. 1. Metformin at a dosage of 1700mg/day 2. Metformin(1700mg)+lipoic(600mg) Godspeed

Thanks for the advice guys. One more thing....has anyone experienced really good results using this? Do you really lose weight just by taking this drug?? I know it burns your glucose, but I've read about other ppl taking in more carbs to make up for it so they can bulk up. I'm not looking to bulk up just lose weight, so I haven't upped my carbs. I haven't changed much of my diet plan except its more calorie dense. Can taking Metformin really give me some room to cheat with the carbs? How long before I see results with the weightloss or does it even make a difference? Thanks so much for all the help. :-)

Try http://www.smart-drugs.net/index.html As I understand it, Metformin increases your own bodies sensitivity to insulin. As we grow older our pancreas puts out more and more insulin until it gets exhausted, thus, diabetes. Our bodies build up a slow insensitivity to insulin. It most likely works best for people over 35. I'm 47 and had good results on 1000mg's a day. No real side effects. [This message has been edited by Davidd (edited August 26, 2000).] |
