How many of you now find yourselves training around existing acute injuries or long standing injuries that make you feel like a little girl in the gym doing pumping exercises because if you went heavy you would rip the f*ing muscle from the bone or completely incinerate an existing joint problem. Sorry to bring you guys down, but I had to vent to someone, I've had so many injuries in my career that I really think that I may have had a real chance to go a least to the nationals otherwise. Just wondering who else feels the same way sometimes?

I can definately empathize. My right shoulder joint has been screwed up for years. It has prevented me from doing dips and hindered my progress in shoulder presses and bench presses. My bench is lagging behind due to the periods of time when I was too hurt to do them. Even on a good night I am in pain. You just have to work around them and hit the exercises that you can do with as much intensity as possible. Good luck bro. Later,

gs, been there, done that too. I don't know if I am hardcore or just stupid sometimes. I suppose that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Peace get big or get out

I had a problem with my patella tendon in my right knee. But it really only hurt walking up stairs and doing squats. So for 2 months I just did Deads, Leg press, leg ext., and some hack squats. Finally sucked it up last night and did squats with no pain at all. Sooooooo happy. There are ways around every injury, just gotta look for 'em.

Man, I just posted a message on nearly the same subject. I feel like a whiner.

I too have worked around injuries. It is not easy sometimes but neither is the idea of giving it a rest for several weeks. It sure would be nice to lift injury free. ------------------

I had never pulled a muscle in 16 years of lifting. Then about 2 months after I'd come off a cycle last year I pulled a tri doing an excercise I invented for tries several years ago. It took about 4 weeks to get to where I could use half the weight and about 12 weeks to get back to normal. I just pulled it again Monday. Same f'n tri, same f'n exercise, same f'n rep (1st) of the same f'n set (2nd) as last year. I threw the clamp, threw plate down and yelled like an idiot. Fuck does that piss ya off. Like you guys are saying it's not the pain it's the time off for that muscle.

I can't help but laugh when I think of all the down time I have spent over the years. Now realizing that I am NOT alone I can safely say I feel for my fellow iron warriors that have gone through what I've been through. LOL

Its gotta suck, everyone one over the age of 28 at my gym has some chronic pain in their joints, low back, etc. They always said, I wish I took the time to learn basic biomechanics I take for granted now. Youths, my age and younger, usually approach resistance training with the same mindless bravado to which they pursue everything else. I thank God that I have as of yet produced any such injuries. ------------------

I know what you mean bro. I had a couple ligaments replaced in my left knee and my leg training has been suffering since. I tried squatting about 6 months ago and it hurt like hell and the knee kept popping! Doc told me I needed another surgery. Then, I ran into an old friend (by old, I mean he's like 75) who used to be a bodybuilder and holds some world strength records (used to be on Jack Lalaane show in the early days doing feats of strength). I worked with him for a weak and he fixed my form. I now do the full "put a stain on the floor" squat with no popping and no pain!! I feel good to have to limp around from a great leg workout!! ------------------

I know the feeling. I have severe patellar tendonitis and because I kept lifting heavy for months, knots formed in my quad to try to pull the knee back into place, thus restricting blood flow to the lower quad, and my teardrop on the quad has started to die. Now I'm in rehab, but I feel like a pussy because I can't do much weight at all with legs and I miss the days of limping and puking after my workouts. |
