I had an extremely good day yesteday with squats and that has put me in a great mood that will last for the week.

I may be psycho, but if I have a bad day with legs, then my week sucks. If I have the gym staring at me as grunt out rep after rep on squats, and puke and pass out, then my week is going to be great. I feel like I have accomplished a task of great importance.

Anyone else like this?

I think you might be a bit twisted, but that's what's going to get you results. Are you in Phoenix? I'm heading to Sedona next week for a couple of weeks.

Especially when your legs are so f'd up that you can't sleep from the pain in them, and you don't even feel like having sex, then you have worked your legs, till then it is just pussy work.

Well chesty I must say that I have not always shared this view with you, however over the past two years I have become a leg man. It is by far my favorite bodypart to train, I get pumped just thinking about. I always used to say "my legs just won't grow, no matter how hard I train them." I realized that I was just being a big pussy. Once I overcame this my legs grew like a weed. I train Quads and Hams every Monday to put them at the beginning of my week. After a good leg night the rest of my workouts go smooth because I know I'm building a strong foundation. Balls to the walls leg training is what proves someones dedication to this sport.

Of course with this swollen nut I have to take a little wider stance in the squat rack ha ha, but I'm getting that fixed soon enough

I remeber the days of being 240lbs and getting ready to squat 315 for 20 reps. I would sit on the seated calf raise machine wearing baggy sweat pants and oversized sweater. (It was the style back then) Headphones on loud, muttering sweet shit to my self trying to psych myself out. I step under the bar, heart already racing knowing whats in store. The first rep seems heavy but I struggle, yell, spit, to get 20 full reps. Damn! those were the days of being big.

Leg training is what seperates the wannabe's from the willbe's. Damn I do legs on Monday and my week is just fucking great afterwards. You gotta love it.

Of course on Mondays, I don't think about leg training, I don't let it pop up into my mind, I don't want to fore warn these bitches, but when I hit the gym, oh jesus, the pain and suffering and gnashing of teeth. Oh yeah, and I squat some too.

Peace,
Jae

Yesterday was my leg day. Did 10 sets of ass to the floor squats and some deadlifts. I can barely stand up or sit down today. Chesty, where are you selling a house in AZ? If the deal doesn't go through I might be interested.

Actually I am buying it in Anthem, AZ just north of Phoenix on I-17 (aobut 17 miles, across from the outlet mall. Also about 5 miles south of New River). If you are interested in a new house, it is a brand new community. They even have a gym that is for residents only and is very nicely equipped with about 90 % of what we need. Check out www.delwebb.

I just work in Everett. Life of a contract engineer.

i am the same way....if any other lift goes bad for me I can suck it up and say "there's always next workout"....but if I screw up my squats I go into a deep depression until the next time I do them....and I can never wait a whole...usually when any soreness fades I need to do them...it is psychotic, but I have a sick obssession with haveing big, powerful legs....I have seen too many guys with 20" arms and a quad measurement to match and they look like ass fucks and I say "no way, not me"

Chesty you make me jealous. Used to hate legs but would do them because they made the rest of my physique grow alot more. Last October I blew my knee out and had to have an ACL reconstruction during Christmas time. Obviousely haven't been able to "train" legs and I miss it now and see a difference in how my body responds. I hope by this Christmas I'll be back somewhat normal and pplan to go up to about 4-500 pounds on leg press during my September cycle and try to build up the strength in my knee area again. I used to press 1000 for 10-12 reps and now the idea of doing 450 sounds really good to me. I'm sure I'll be back but damn I wish I could take back all the complaining about how much legs makes you want to die. Shit I'm dying now because I can't do them for real. Isn't that always the way?

I agree with most of you lads, if you don't do the squats, you won't grow. The only problem is that when I do legs, I'm f'cked for half of the week. I had a leg day Sunday- two days later it still hurts to sit down on the can to take a shit. And this almost always happens, no matter how much stretching I do afterwards or how much warming up I do beforehand. My legs end up being so sore that I have to miss rugby practice.

not so long ago i hated squats because i couldn't do them right and the reason i couldn't do them right was because i was using way too much weight so i swallowed my pride and started squatting the right way with weight i could handle
i used to train my legs with leg presses, smith smachine and other contraptions

now i fucking crave squats like i crave double cheeseburgers, french fries, and chocolate shakes
i froth at the mouth at the thought of being under the bar, legs shaking, lungs about to explode, vision blurring...

pain rocks

Don't worry, you will be back soon. Just take your time and work at it slowly and smartly. Remember, it is the amount of weight we move (although it can be impressive to the uneducated masses) it is how we move it.

Concentrate on slow deliberate reps, paying strict attention to your knee. Let how your knee feels the next day be the guide to whether or not you did too much the previous day.

I know what it is like to come back from injuries and pains that never go away. Hell in December I was ready to quit and just become a fat couch slob. But I could not and will not concede defeat, EVER!

I just recently started squating again. I forgot how much it hurts. But if you ain't leaving shit stains on the floor, your not doing squats. I look at it this way. When I do pullups, I don't go half way down, I go all the way down to stretch that sumbitch. So why on Gods green earth wouldn't you do the same for squats!!
And for all those out there using to much weight, Who gives a flying fuck how much weight you move! I have seen guys moving twice the weight I do but I still look better than them because I do it correctly. Plus, when some slut on the beach see's me & my muscles she could care less how much I bench or squat. So leave the ego's on the doormat at the entrance of the gym & do things right!

Man that picture makes me want to go do squats right now! Tomorrow is leg day and I actually look forward to doing squats now. It kills me how about 98% of the people at my gym do 1/2 or 1/4 squats and then scream like they are actually doing something. I lifted with the football team at my college the other day and I couldn't believe the crappy form these guys had. Not one of them even went to parallel and the coaches didn't say shit about it. When I was in high school if you didn't get low enough the coach would put a chair under your ass and make you squat until you sat down in it. The strongest guys on the team always broke parallel. I wonder why some of these strength coaches don't catch on? They must still believe that breaking parallel will hurt your knees. At least those of us in the know will have big legs.

REAL GROWTH STARTS BEYOND PARALLEL!!!!!!!

Later,
giantset

Great posts guys.

One suggestion , after you do your sets of Squats if your GYm has a Trap Bar follow your squat sets with Trap Bar Deadlifts, its still a deadlift but it will bring all of your legs into the movement rather than just your hammies and lower back.

Squat followed by Trap Bar Deads will toast your legs.

Only prob is 2 days after my leg day I walk like I have polio (no offense) people think I am handicapped or something....its just that my legs are toast
