Only The amounts that aren't procesed can be harmful. I think this is correct. ------------------

The theory states that high amounts of protein are bad for the kidneys. Since protein metabolism produces a high amount of urea as a waste product, your kidneys have to work to filter that urea from the blood. The extra stress that is put on the kidneys from having to work extra hard is the supposed cause of damage due to excess protein. The liver, on the other hand, is the toxic waste dump in the body. All compounds that are to be broken down and made inert and thus safe for the body must pass through the liver. That is why steroids are 17 alpha alkylated-the liver can't make them inert on the first pass. The liver is not stressed due to excess protein. So think of your kidneys as a living filter, and the liver as a sewage treatment plant of the body. [This message has been edited by Bchemist (edited August 22, 2000).]

I've been told that as long as you drink plenty of water, you'll be fine. ------------------

yea...just drink plenty of water. If protein was so toxic all of the pros would be in hospital right now. ------------------ |
