Humaloge R is available over the counter right? Is it as simple as strolling into your local pharmacy like syringes? Just wondring if there were any experiences that might be sharted. Thanks.

When I was considering using insulin a few months back, I found out that it is legal OTC here in Texas, but I don't think it is everywhere...do a search, there was a thread a few weeks ago on where/how to get it OTC. I've heard you just go into Wal-Mart where it's legal and ask for some, and if they act suspicious or seem reluctant, just say you're in from out of town, accidentally left your bottle in the car, and it turned all cloudy and you're there for another week or so...seemed to work for a guy I know... ------------------

Yes, insulin is legal OTC in most states. Some counties though will require a diabetic card I've been told but I've never had a problem. I've been using Humilin R off and on for about a year and a half now and it's the shit. It is by far more anabolic than anything I've ever taken including test and Parabolan. BECAREFUL though you must know what you are doing and know your body pay close attention. I take a shot (I'm not going to day how much because you need to start low like 2-4iu) and then start my timer on my watch and check it each time I feel different. This has allowed me to know exactly when I will become hypoglycemic and how long it stays active (each person is different) I have a shot and immediately have a high carb (mixed 1/2 simple 1/2 complex) high protein drink. Then do it again in about 2 hours and I'm fine. The only time I get the shakes like I am getting hypo is around the 3 hour mark. It feels like ephedrine when you get the shakes. Immediately have a simple carb like soda and then some complex keep sipping on the soda until the shakes stop. That's about it. Don't take it closer than 4-5 hours apart and don't take it before or during a workout. Your body will deplete itself of carbs while working out and then you have nothing to cancel out the insulin. Be safe and get huge. JJ

BTW when I said I do it again in about 2 hours I was refering to having another shake not taking more insulin. Like this for example: and so on JJ

Jucie, excellent advice brother. The effects of a hypoglycemic state for the first time can be a bit unnerving. Gentlemen, I suggest you follow most of what was said by juice junkie. 2-4 IU'S post workout. Carb solution should be composed of approximatly 60% simple suger 40% complex to counter act the effects of the temporary hypoglycemia. Be prepared with additional simple sugers should that not be sufficient. For every IU of insuline factor 10-20g of carbohydrates. Insulin is indeed over the counter, however the pharmacist is allowed a measure of discretion in the sale of this. If he or she suspects your "misusing" then they may elect not to sell you the product. It has happened to those of us before. ------------------

Im not sure which insulin you mean. You said Humalog r. Theres Humalin R or Humalog. Humalin R is easily available, but Humalog they seem to want a script for. I use Humalog all the time, and I feel it is the absolute best. Its faster acting than "R" and therefore more controllable. After the shot, it will be active in 15 minutes. Ive worke with a lot of people on this, and bodyweight and fat dont seem to alter that. It will then peak in an hour, then it is clear of your system. As for the shake after using it, I would suggest a carb drink, since the protien isnt going to reglycogenate your body. After the carb drink a shake will be just right. Then have a good meal a short time later (mix of carbs and protein) and that will take care of the peak. I have to disagree with Juice Junkie on the carb composition. You want a 100% fast acting carb, but NOT like a soft drink. A premixed creatine drink works great, but I use straight maltodextrin. The 50/50 bleand is less effective here because you need the carbs NOW! Its the perfect time to try some glycogen overcompensation in your hungry muscles. If theyre waiting on the carb release, they arent able to shuttle it to the muscle. (With out the insulin shot, 50/50 is better post workout, but the insulin shot changes things. But have a can of pop around just in case you need the quick sugar slam) If you are prone to fat gain, be careful of too many carbs, and DO NOT take in any dietary fat while the insulin is active. It will partition the fat into the fat stores! Thats another reason Humalog is good. It only forces you to limit your diet for an hour... As for amount of carbs, 10-20g per i.u. is way too high, but it is the way its always been done. I seldom take in more than 10 per i.u, and usually go 5 or 6 per i.u. Most people now know that that is plenty. My friend is diabetic, and when she feels hypoglycemia coming on she take 1 5g glucose tablet and shes fine... I have a lot of articles around here someplace backing up the fact that people overreact when it comes to insulin, and thats why so many of us get fat (no a flame to anyone, just the truth). But if you dont get fat easy, err on the side of caution and go 10g per i.u. Definatly start out at 2-4 i.u. post workout, and go up from there, once you get a better feel for it. Going overboard on insulin is another way to get fat. Just use "enough", not too much. Im 260lbs, and never go above 10 i.u., I only use it post workout, but a lot of people use it before every meal. Definatly be careful! Its not as dangerous as its hyped up to be, but there are very strict guidlines to follow. If you follow them, youll be fine!!! If you get Humalog, drink the carbs right with the shot, and the timeing will work out fine. I do that, hit the shower, and get dressed, and by then Im ready for a post workout meal which times out just right to cover the peak... Hope that helps! |
