I went to the gym yesterday and they were offering free body fat analysis. The lady asked me 3 questions about training and intensity asked my height and weight then stuck some suction thing to my bicep. When she was done she came up with 23.5% bf. I started laughing and thanked god I didn't have to pay for that. BTW, there is no way in hell I'm 23.5%. I'm 15% tops. What method do you guys use?

Electrode at the base of your hand and an electrode at the end of your foot. Shoot current thru your body and measure the results.

never heard of that kinda test. I believe the most accurate(sp) is the one they conduct underwater, can't remember the name, but then you got the calipier(sp) and then there is one that sends an electric shock through body to measure bf. But the one they do in the water is suppose to be the best. Later.

Water testing is generally considered the most accurate. But, it has come to light that it may not be as good as once thought for bodybuilders/athletes because of their greater than norm skeletal and muscle mass.

Electrical impedance has roughly a 10 percent plus or minus margin of error and can vary greatly from machine to machine as well as the conditions the individual is tested under.

Where can you order those calipers?? Someone had posted a website a while back but I can't find it.

I couldn't find the calipers at any of the local stores by me either.

Hydrostatic weighing (underwater)is the gold standard. The only problem with that is access to it. Calipers are based on the hydrostat so they would be second best. Bioelectrical Impedence is supposed to be fairly accurate though. I you want to be sure though just get a large kettle and boil yourself until all the fat comes off and weigh it. good luck!

Hey Bros, I have been having my bf testing done with a gizmo called a "Bod Pod". I live in Indianapolis and there is one at the National Institute for Fitness and Sports. My understanding is that the test is accutrate to within 1/2% (plus or minus). I get the tests run for about 30 bucks a pop and believe me its well worth it. I dont know if it has replaced the underwater method or not.

Underwater method is ok, except for the fact that you cannot let all of your air out of you from under the water. The best is now supposed to be some new electrical method...

Yes, the bodpod has been replacing hydro and is equally accurate. It's easier to maintain and you don't have to exhale all of your air.

Water is generally considered the most reliable. The mirror is more valuable to me as I can tell immediately if I'm fatter.
