First off, BACK OFF OF THE COPS!!! They are doing their job you pay them to do. Protect your peace and safety to the best of their ability. The only reason you hate them is because they can take away your freedom.

First off, all citizens have the authority to make an arrest if they witness a crime. It is part of almost every state constitution if not all. Second, if a cop or deputy can show exigent circumstances then they can make an arrest no matter where they are at in their state.

Most officer's will call 911 if they are off duty unless it is a serious misdemeanor or felony.

So, yes they can and will on or off duty.

Why do they speed down the road? They are not supposed to but then what kind of call are they on, what is the situation at hand. What if you were the one who called 911 and was about to be brutilized or you just found your gf or wife half beaten to death and raped. Wouldn't you want them there ASAP!

Let's talk about the awesome responsibilty we place on an officer. We make him the only citizen of this country that has the power of life and death. In an instant, they may have to become the judge jury and executioner. Ask yourself, can you handle that responsibility?

I am so sick and tired of hearing I hate the cops, if you are gonna play the game and break the law whether or not you agree with it you have to be willing to suffer the consequences. These men and woman didn't tell you to go break the law. You just happened to get caught.

So for the last time, quit FLAMING peace officers. They are just like us.

If anyone is interested in why I am so touchy on the subject email me.

OK, here it is for the last time, Officers outside of their JURISDICTION on or off duty cannot make an arrest. Arrest means Custodial and Charges Filed. They may legally DETAIN said offender and turn offender over to whatever authority has jurisdiction where the crime occurred.

If the officer is within their JURISDICTION wheather on or off duty the may make an ARREST.

Check out the KNOW YOUR RIGHTS POST on the chat board.

Ripped2 you are right. I grew up in Chicago. I was beaten by more cops than I can remember. But I was a punk. I would kick my ass if I went back in time and saw me. I've had good friends turn into animals I don't even want to talk to after they became cops. It does change your perspective of the world when you are constantly dealing with the worst segment of society.
But there are plenty on cops who are great people and don't get all caught up in that. They do their job without the 'tude and should not be stereotyped because of what they do.

I will come to Montreal when they lower the airfare to a reasonable price, 1800$ US is too much.

Outside of jurisdiction can mean many things.

For a Deputy, his jurisdiction is the county in which he works. Outside of that can mean being in the next county. But, because he/she has a state commission as well as a city still gives him the authority of arrest. He/she has an obligation if witnessing an inherently dangerous felony or serious misdemeanor to effect the arrest, if he is off duty he will call 911 unless it is a matter of life or death or rape in progress or something of that nature.

The only time a peace officer will not have his authority is if he is outside of the state in which he obtained his commission. Now some states have working agreements that allow them to make arrests and such in a neighboring state.

People, you will just have to trust me on this, I know exactly what I am talking about, don't fool yourself.

OK Chesty, I was the one who said something about cops speeding so I guess that one was aimed at me. Look, my uncle is a cop and a great guy. However the vast majority of cops act like total assholes. Do they have to get so pissed off when you speed? Can't they just relax and give you the ticket and let you on your way. I don't see a need for that. And BTW, I was not talking about cops that are going to some type of emergency call. If they are going to help someone then by all means speed away. But cops are not going to the scene of a crime everywhere they go, yet they speed everywhere they go. That is not right because I would bet everything I own that they are not racing to help someone all the time.

Here in my state (Kentucky) there was a case a while back where there was a cop going around and giving speeding tickets to other cops who were speeding because they were not rushing to an emergency, they were probably just trying to get home from work early. That is proof that not only do I notice cops abusing this privelage but so do other cops. You can probably find the article on the net somewhere. I have no problem with cops. I just hate to see people abuse their power and I think when it comes to speeding they always do. If they want us to go slow then they should have to set an example. Why should they get home from work faster than me just because they are cops. The law is for everyone. Period! Relax Chesty. Don't get so upset, bro. Peace...Mav

Ok, I have NOTHING against police officers. I think a lot of them are pricks, but so are a lot of people who aren't cops.

Enough suspense let's get it all out- Chesty, are you a cop or are you related to a cop?

Okay, I was a Deputy Sheriff for 4 1/2 years.

During that time two of our Deputies were killed by punk ass bitches. One was a 14 year old prick who was in a stolen car. I didn't get a chance to meet him, I was in the academy. The other was my friend and supervisor, he was stabbed to death by raving lunatic for no reason at all. I got to see my friend die in front of me. And I also saw him on the operating table all laid open like a bomb went off inside him.

Everytime I heard the officer in trouble tone on the radio, it sent chills down my spine for the next year.

I rarely gave out tickets but, when I did rest assured they were deserved.

So the suspense is over.

That is what I figured. It's all good though. It is not that I hate cops in general. I just hate assholes and most cops act like assholes. Guess we can't judge them all by how most of them act. I guess dealing with white trash and little hoodrats all day will do that to you. Sad if you ask me. Sucks to have a job that turns you into a prick. Not that you are a prick, Chesty. You know what I mean. Peace...Mav

I will say that a fair share of them do. For one reason or another. We face a criminal element that does nothing but train all day in prison to attack a cop and kill him, they lift weights, get three squares a day and on top of that they have the rights we don't.

A citizen's arrest will hold up anywhere. You have to turn the suspect over to the authorities immediately. Just think, if you hold a suspect for the cops they arrive and put the cuffs on him, you have effected a citizens arrest. You don't have to put handcuffs on someone to do that.

Lets' keep it in perspective. We will always have the 10% who fuck it up for the other 90%. That is true in the military, police units, and general population. So, don't judge us all by the actions of an inept few.

chesty.

peace Mav, I know where you are coming from.

Definately true chesty...When you put it like that, cops have just as much of a reason to use steroids as football players or bodybuilders.

I do agree with you bro, it's always like 10% percent that give the other 90% a bad rap.....I have good friends who either are cops or are going in the acadamy very soon, they are great guys....I hide the fact that I am not natural from a couple of them, but the other ones that know really don't care....they just don't want me to get caught...Seriously, most cops hate giving out speeding tickets..they are on the force to serve and protect...not to be ass holes....I hate it when I hear people talk shit about and make blanket statements about police officers...they put thier life on the line each and every day....they should be respected for that, not bad-mouthed.
