Fucking nice site..."Greetings #####" Oh BOY An address is assigned to your PC by your ISP. If you have a dedicated static line like DSL or Cable a "static" IP address which never changes (unless you request to)is assigned to you. MOST internet sights can read your address and trace it back through your ISP if they so desired. A firewall applicaiton or some type of security application caould prevent this. The site above looks like one of those apps(I did not read into it very deep.) ------------------ IP: Logged |

Do some research on the internet of different products. If you access you job through your DSL connection most of these apps will cause a problem. ------------------ IP: Logged |

And...in general...don't worry about it. Unless you are conducting illegal activity. Regardless, always use a secure email system like hush mail over your regular isp email. You can even get a second one an cross reference it to the first.. and so on... hotmail to hushmail to yahoomail etc... ------------------ IP: Logged |

I personally use Norton Internet security and it works well ! I even have to disable the program when I want to use pc-to-phone via the net because nis blocks every ports that hackers could use.

Just go buy webtv, it cant be hacked into, has an anti somethin' or other in it, and the webtv ip thingies change because of some firewall crap or something like that. ------------------ "Pain is weakness leaving the body>>>" IP: Logged |

I think zone alarm sucks personally. I used it for like second one day and it sucked. If you are a personal user, you wont need a firewall, unless you are a hacker yourself, then you know all about it. Dark Stalker - there are thousands of ports. Any of then can be used. You must be talking about the ports of famous trojan horses. That doesnt matter because that is just default and it can be changed on the client. Port 80 will always be open for attack because almost all internet stuff is done on that port. No matter what you cant be safe if someone targeted you unless you know how to protect yourself and you were smart about it. I used to use a little utility called blackICE to monitor activities on my ports. I recommend that to people that know at least a little about what I am talking about. IP: Logged |

I know all about what you are talking about and Zone Alarm is better, no.. much better than Black Ice D. They both lock down your ports but BID doesn't intercept the incoming packet like Zone Alarm does, giving the intruder the impression there is no active IP at that address. If you're saying (and you did) personal users on a static IP don't need a firewall then it is you that doesn't know what you are talking about. IP: Logged |

Ha Ha. Calm down ulter. What I was saying was unless you have a reason for someone to screw with you are get on your computer, then you shouldnt need so much protection. There is a slight chance, as always, that you will be targeted but I would just take my chances. If you save your passwords on your computer or arent smart about surfing then you are stupid anyway. I am just saying, be smart about what you do and you shouldnt get messed with. I personally dont use BlackICE anymore. I used to use it but I have been moving around for the past 4 months or so, so I dont have a computer right now. I had some other utilities on my computer that did excately what you are talking about. These utilities when worked in conjunction with each other seem to work for me better than Zone Alarm does. I used BlackICE to monitor activity, but where I lived there was no activity and there was no one targeting me. I was in the clear on that. I understand what you are saying ulter. I apologize if I gave an insufficient response. IP: Logged |
