   How bad is US customs at the airport. Im going Sunday to Mexico and coming back in 3 days for work. Im going to do some shopping there and wanted to know if customs will go thru all my bags. I have Laptop case were i can hide my thing. What do you think ? IP: Logged |

been to mex and back 3x by plane. customes is a joke. twice they did not check one person from the whole plane, the other time, they only looked at one guys shit. no sweat. IP: Logged |

If you are older than 30 and don't look way above average size I would bring something home for wife or kids and declare it. It will look less obvious. Just conceal your stuff well and pop a valium before hand and be a cool cucumber. IP: Logged |

I'm NOT trying to make you (or anyone) paranoid, but I have had some "hard-core" search experiences by customs at numerous entry-points. Schizpol(Sp?) in Amsterdam, Chicago O'Hare, and in London. In all circumstances I was traveling on business and was always "clean." BTW - I do not fit any traditional "profile" that one would expect to prompt action, I have just been lucky to "get picked" I guess. I was detained at O'Hare on a return trip from Amsterdam in 1991 for ~2 hours, they went through everything (literally) I had carried-on and checked...pain-in-the-ass. Again, I am not suggesting you have anything to worry about, but you asked:

I have traveled back and fourth from south america 6 times as well as my brother,I was check hard once...the best place to keep gear is on you..socks underwear and pockets and other nifty places I use..if you go back in the archives I have a story..."animal B is lucky to be here" IP: Logged |

I traveled to the Philippines a few months ago, but I didn't bring anything back. For 99% of the people coming back through LAX, customs was a joke. This woman that I met on the plane however had a problem with them. She is tall, beautiful and dresses well. She looks like she has alot of money. Customs basically asked her alot of patronizing questions and went through all of her stuff. I had to wait for her for over a half hour for them to go through everything. She said that this happens to her all the time. So I'm guessing that they are going to search at least one per flight just so they can say they are doing their jobs. So if you don't stick out like a sore thumb you will probably not be "the one". IP: Logged |

you people who havent traveled internationally should not talk..the metal detectors you only pass through when you leave the country as well as xray..in mexico the shit is legal..if the find it they could give a F%$�k all your stuff will be in your carry bag first..pass through xray and all the metal dectors..now while you are waiting to get on the plane go to the bathroom and close the stall door...put all the shit in your socks underware pockets ect...now go wait for the plane and have a good flight.. i fly back and forth to the caribbean twice a year for the last 7 years. when you arrive in mexico you go thru the 'red light green light' test but who give a shit you dont bring anything in anyway. going back home your bag goes thru xray. you get to the states, get in customs line, answer a few questions, and find your car. i havent been checked once in 7 years.
