![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After being out of the game for a couple years I have finally gotten back in as of January of 2000. After 2 months I injured my right shoulder. My doc called it a shoulder impingement. Specialist said the same and wanted me to try physical therapy. Didn't work at all. I am still doing exercises to strengthen my rotator cuff muscles, but they just don't seem to help much. Now cortizone shots don't even help more than a week. Any suggestions or comments? By the way, great board. This kind of stuff didn't exist when I played the game good and hard. Maybe I just played in a windowless gym or something, but keep it up anyway. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I had the same problem a couple of years ago. Took 6 weeks off and took the medication the doctor gave. When I started back I did rotator exercises only. The next couple of weeks I slowly added back other exercises. I still do rotator exercises twice a week to be on the safe side. You may have to take a couple of weeks off to get the swelling down in the Bursa. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dirty right now I feel your pain. I am straining with a rotator problem as well. Went to the doc and gave me some arthritis medicine called "Celebrex" It has done wonders for dulling the pain when lifting. It seems to help, but like all meds, my body is now getting acustomed to having them in there and affect is starting to wear off. Need to move to bigger and better things. Next time your at the doc tell him you want to try them. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I know exactly how you feel. I'm struggling with a shoulder injury to. Best thing to do is take the rest your body needs. Take some anti-inflamatory's and ice it three times a day for 20 minutes. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks to those who answered. I guess I just don't want to admit I'm getting older, (36), even though I still don't feel like it. I'm still trying to keep up with the younger guys. As they sometimes say, I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up. At least sometimes. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As an experienced surgery person i can tell you that if the bursitis hasnt gone down by now it is probably time for a subacromial decompression. if your just gettin back into the game now is the time to do it. Your acromium will keep rubbing your rotator cuff till it wears a hole in it, then its just more problems. get well so you can train right. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Bro, I know the feeling...being a heavy benchpresser, I am constantly "on the edge" as far as impingement goes. And yes, doing external rotation does help the rotators to a degree. But, what I have found that works best, is stretching the front delts/rotator cuff. I got behind on my shoulder maintenance, and after a few weeks of stretching, I was good as new. IP: Logged |
