Is e-mail secure from outside readers? For Example: hushmail, hotmail etc. Can someone track where your mail is coming from and can it be read by outside sources? Any computer guru's please help.. IP: Logged |

As simple as this , if the server is in the U.S. big brother can read your mail with a court order. If you are not concern about that use hush or ziplip IP: Logged |

I understand that, but how do they link your address to you. If you use a fake name, how can they link your e-mail address back to you.. Maybe this is a stupid question, but i really don't know and I want to understand how it works.. IP: Logged |

I do not believe that if both participants are using a secure encrypted client like Hushmail, the feds cannot read it, atleast as it is communicating from one party to another. What they might be able to do is purswade Hushmail to allow access into their mail system, but even Hushmail says that is impossible and that they cannot even retrieve your password for you. Just a thought. IP: Logged |

I think what the brotha is asking is "HOW DO THEY KNOW IF AN EMAIL ADDY BELONGS TO YOU"... Say your email is [email protected], how do they know this email addy belongs to JOHN SMITH? john IP: Logged |

They can find out who you are by matching your IP address to that which you used when you signed up for the service. Only with cooperation from both your ISP and the web email provider of course. It also depends on how long both parties keep logon records.Do you see the little link to the right of this message "IP logged"? Elite Fitness logged your IP address when you posted your message. If you have an ISP such as mindspring and others that assign you a different IP address everytime you logon, you can still be traced using the IP addy+the time and date. With Hushmail, which is the safest web type mail, your message is encrypted ON YOUR COMPUTER BEFORE IT GOES OUT by a java applet that loads as soon as you sign in. (hence the long load time of the passphrase page) Every time you send a message on some email providers, you also send your individual IP address as it is at that time, unless you are using a proxy server. If you want to surf and send web mail with anonymity try out http://www.the-cloak.com it's free and very useful. I'm no guru just like to learn new and interesting shit, if I'm wrong about anything above somebody post it or let me know. MIKAI ?
