Hey Dirk the thing that realy sucks is that the Americans get 5 invitations while countries with 2 or 3 potential winners like Finland only get one invite because they don't have as much TV audience in there coutry so some of the best athletes don't get to compete while hopeless competitors like Phil Phister do. Even some former runners up from past years dont get an invite because of these rules.

I wish they showed more current WSM events, all I ever see is the same damn semi-finals event in Malta. Same episode every other day, hell I feel like I've been to malta I've seen it so many times. God I can't wait till football season.

I agree with Luca. It was really close run in Finnish nationals this year. There are many guys in same level (even better) than this Virtanen (who's leading) is. It sucks when sports are based on the amount money that TV-companies can make.

Nope, Ahola is doing some movie thing, in USA I think. So he isn't in this year. He was doing too much cmpetitions last year and lost some of his strenght, but his is damn strong still.

He did this strange world record with some Finnish powerlifter. It was deadlift as a pair (two men at same time) and they did somewhat over 700kg ~ 1500lbs. I think both of them can get over 400kg ~ 890lbs, when lifting alone.

I was hoping Whit would do better, he has a lot of potential. Strongman has quickly become the ultimat etest for the strength athlete. It's a discipline that requires many strengths, to be a greta strongman one must have excellent athletisism/strength/speed/endurance. I have seen many great athletes fall out of a strongman comp after the first event. I welcome any bodybuilders to come and give it a try. The worst contestants ever have been bodybuilders, who often carried even more muscle mass than the other competitors. Curtis Leffler was a laughing stock, he couldn't even do a couple of the events b/c he was so poorly conditioned. I seen many ripped people with horrible conditioning, It's a common misconception that a ripped person must posses great conditioning. I think after Leffler was laughed out of the strongman world bodybuilders turned their backs to strongman and tried to say that they are all fat and ugly. It doesn't take a psychologist to figure out why the bodybuilders were taking their shots at strongman. Bodybuilders were upset b/c the writting was on the wall for the whole world to see. Bodybuilders took a huge ego check, and started to take offense to those who were more athletic. I find it comical, not only b/c I'm a strongman competitor but b/c I have been on both sides of the fence. I started out as a bodybuilder and when I reached the college level in track & field I quickly learned that machines and most bodybuilding routines are garbage. We had an excellent strength coach provided it was a DI school. After collge I competed in powerlifting. I feel that my track & field and powerlifting background gave me a good foundation for strongman. So any of you that are out there and want to get strong and fast: "Hang your towel on the machines, give up the bodybuilding machine routines and stop kidding yourselves. If your up for a real challenge go ahead and enter a strongman comp. You will have more respect for all competitors after you do!!!!

I agree totally monstrosity, and on the whit baskin subject after winning 3 events last year one even a world record I thought he would do realy well this year. On the Ahola topic when he signed the movie contract there was a section stating that he could not comptete during that so that he would'nt get injuried half way through filming. The ahola deadlift was at the World Team Championships (by the same people as the worlds strongest man) where they have 2 men from each country competeing in 2 man events.

MONSTROSITY, I agree with most of your points, except for "The worst contestants ever have been bodybuilders." I could very well be wrong, but wasnt Manfred a bodybuilder? I thought he had something like 26 inch-ripped arms? I could be mistaken though. Just my two cents...peace. ps i too was pulling for whit after last years performance especially in the truck pull.
