I've been down to like 30/40 grams of carbs for like 3 days, and cardio 1 or 2 times a day and the keto sticks are still reading negitive or minner traces of ketones. I was woundering if you bros think these things really work. Or maybe I have to go lower or wait longer. Thanks IP: Logged |

3days isnt' long enough, usually when you drop cal. intake the inital weight lost is water. About the keto sticks. There was a good article in flex about 3-4mon. ago. They said that they are unrelable. I forgot why, but they said it doesn't always work. You must wait longer. But usually i just cut my Carb. in half, keep my protein high,and hit cardio 4-5times a week. That works fine for me. IP: Logged |

A lot of times when we go into ketosis, the ketones don't show up in the urine. Lyle McDonald's book is going out of print and I reccomend it to learn more about this. A lot of the ketones are excreted in your breath and through your skin as well. I would guess you are in ketosis, but give it a couple more days. The 1st 3 weeks you will lose water weight, the next couple should be mostly fat. If you keep your protein at about 150 grams, not too much more or less, you will actually be an a sort of anti-catabolic state for a while. First off you need to limit your carbs to 20g and under. Second eat more fat the first four days it will help can you in ketosis faster. Lastly it takes anywhere from 4-6 days to get into the deeper shade of purple. IP: Logged |

I HAVE TO SAY I THINK THEY'RE CRAP, TOO. I've tried 'em and never seen any color other than the one that it starts out as, and I know for a fact I was losing fat. I guess I don't completely understand the scientific base of "ketosis" but I do think that the Keto-strips are BULLSH*T!! ------------------ IP: Logged |

THe sticks work. I have used the ketosis diet on and off for 4yrs. You need to read a book about the scientific theory of it. You may think you are eating 30-40g but you may not. One apple could throw you right out. Read Dr. Atkins book and you will be suprised how many times you screwed up on the diet and that is why you were pissing such a light color. A salad with tomatos will screw you up. The diet rocks for burning fat you just need to understand the ins and outs of it. I remember some dude on the diet would tell me- " You can have a small roll or a half a cookie" No way can you do any of that. Basically its tuna,meat cheese, small amounts of lettuce,broccoli, celery, any kind of fish but other than that you are limited. Even some lunch meats because of the sodium nitrates can fuck with your readings. Read the book and do it and you will see great results. IP: Logged |

Ketostix work, but what people don't understand is that you only show ketones in the urine if you have an excess of ketones. While in ketosis, the body is using ketones for energy...so if you are using most of the ketones for fuel then there is little that are excreted in the urine. This explains why some claim to never show more than moderate ketones, but still lose fat. The best time is right when you wake up and take a leak, since you don't use a lot during sleep. Cockdezl is right, really the only time you should be testing for ketones is right when you wake in the morning due to the total lack of activity while sleeping, which allows for ketones to build up in the bloodstream which will be eliminated in the urine, because they are not being used. If this is the first time you have tried this diet than it will take longer to enter ketosis than the normal 2-3 days, just give it some time. If you need any more info email me. IP: Logged |

Thanks bros...It's funny because I feel great and I'm still loosing wieght even though the traces are reading moderate amounts. Although I have been testing at night time so that could be the problem. IP: Logged |

Hey AJC, I wish I had the copy of Lyle's book so I could tell you verbatim. When I get it back from my friend I will post it. I believe it has something to do with the 1st couple of weeks on a ketogenic diet, if any more protein is taken in then the body has a tendency to take several amino acids and synthesize carbs as well as ketones. Damn I wish I had my copy right now! Like I said, I'll post it verbatim when I get it and if I screwed it up I'll blame it on my dyslexia or something like that.
