I can't remember the name for it but it is when you lie sideways on a bench and you grip the weight with both hands and do pullovers with it. I remember reading that these were not good to do? any else think different?

Do you meen the dumbell pullovers I think they were called, and people thought they expanded the chest cavity or some shit.

Those are dumbell pullovers and are very effective for the lower chest and upper abs, be careful though I've smacked my head many times doing them haha.

Those are called cross-bench dumbell pullovers. Actually, they are contraindicated by a number of strength coaches (including Polquin).

They put extreme pressure on the abs and force the shoulders into a dangerous, potentially damaging groove. They've also been known to give hernias to a number of athletes.

Personally, I never had a problem with them in the time that I did them, but I haven't done them since I read a little bit more about them. Not sure the risk to reward ratio is worth it for me. My wife suffered a hernia several months ago and we suspect this very exercise is what caused it. (she did them the day the hernia appeared)

You can do them, but use this variation (as described by Polquin) -- do them on a decline bench with an EZ curl bar. Same benefits, easier on the shoulders and abs.

If you insist on doing them the traditional way, make sure you keep your hips lower than your shoulders.

Hope this helps.
