I have heard of chains for squats and bench, but anyone know what bands are used for?

What kind of bands are you referring to?

I usually like a little Metallica in the gym with me.

yes i have and love them, we do them at my college weightroom. the chains weigh 25 pounds a piece so when you bench them with 225 it feels like 275 when you lift off then as the weight touches ground it gets lighter but the same effect goes when you are finishing your pause cause it gets heavier on the way up, i think this is a good exercise for those sticking points and for those of you who have plateaued,,, same concept with bands and let me tell you do this at the end of a workout and the bands are hard as hell ,,, give it a try for a few weeks with pauses and see how it goes
