Hi Swollen I do agree with you that Shawn Ray should have been Mr Olympia as he is not that huge and his size is more attainable. However I don't agree with you when you said "that he is always clean and does minimum drugs". The reason he is not as huge as the other guy's is probably because he doesn't do as much of the heavy androgenic gear as the rest of the pro's. e.g. what did he test positive for back in - damn forgot the year and competition, anyway it was Winy. I've met Shawn and he is a nice bloke. But If you read the Ironman article by that unknown pro bodybuilder and when he talks about the person who is try to change the sport and is going to win or die trying I think he is talking about Shawn. I'm not flaming you, I think you are right that Shawn Would have made the perfect Mr Olympia. However they say winy in large doses can f**k up your Liver. Next time you meet Shawn look at his eyes. I have noticed his eyes in a picture and yes your right. It was his first contest in the late 80's if I'm not mistaken. Even if he is taking large doses of Winny, and other light androgens, you have to admitt that compared to others, isn't much. A simple misunderstanding. I will always be behind Shawn because he is the little guy and busts his ass just to get slapped in the face by judges year in and year out. I also like his stand point on the judges. If you look at it like this, Bodybuilding is a beauty contest. Guys get up, do a routine and the rest is up to how the judges feel that day. The more judges have control over the outcome of the contests, the more the general public will regard us as "pussy freaks"! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Don't mean to jump into someone else's conversation, but "Shawn is a nice bloke?" HUH? I cannot believe you're referring to the same person that used to go to the Powerhouse Gym in Huntington Beach, CA. He was one of the biggest bastards (attitude-wise) in the gym. He'd hog equipment, yell at people, throw weights. I'd make a point not to be in the same area of the gym he was in at the time. ------------------ IP: Logged |

The past three weeks they have been playing the 99 Mr O tape at my gym over and over so I've watched it 600 times in between sets. I'll tell you Shawn Ray has the best physique in that show. Best symmetry, definition, and perfect proportions. Hes not the biggest but definately the best. Flex was probably second. Ronnie was Huge, symmetrical, and proportioned, but he didnt have the definition that Shawn and Flex had. Shawn looked like a god damn Comic Book hero, actually even better. Artists and sculptors can't make physiques like that.. .Its the "Perfect" physique. Right amount of size with awesome defintion and proportion. The freaks like Marcus Ruhl, Nasser, and Coleman are just results of Brute Force and not Body Sculpting... take as much test, GH, Insulin, IGF-1 and try to scare people with size. The true art is in chiseling away and molding your body parts until you reach perfection like Shawn. Now thats art. Lets see some bumps for Shawn. IP: Logged |

l also agree with you Mark, BUT the point is Shawn Ray may have the most beautiful physique but for the moment that is not a winning physique. Guys like Coleman know that if they want to win, they must have the biggest, most impressive body ever. If this year Shawn Ray comes out as a winner, then next year you will see more guys build like he is. ------------------ Don't look back, life is too short IP: Logged |

I would agree that Shawn Ray has one of the best physiques in the world. I think one on par with him or even better was/is Lee Lebrada. And he is a nice guy and very intelligent. What these contests need is more people like them. In size and symmetry and capability. Until judges start seeing more people like that, they will be voting for the big guy. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Good point chesty, forgot about Lee. He is definately just as good as Shawn. Who are these judges? How are they picked? I think alot of it has to do with trying to get Body Building a farther reach. Sorta like how lowering the pitchers mound and making the strike Zone smaller has resulted in more home runs. This was done to increase interest in baseball. Maybe weider and those guys figure that to draw attention to BodyBuilding they need to catch the eye of the average joe by having these huge behemoths on the cover of magazines. IP: Logged |

True, I would agree with that statement. That is why the Ms Fitness (sarcasm) was started. The public did not like large, muscled woman. I think the general public (mostly men) were/are intimidated by these woman. In their mind it challanges their manliness. (sp) Woman who were not body builders began to see their femininity challanged. Therefore, in order to attract larger crowds of woman to the bodybuilding arena, the Ms Fitness was created.
