I just went to the Dr.'s this last week and got prescribed a new inhaler that was referred to as a "steroid" by my Dr. and I'm curious if it's worth a damn for building any muscle. It's called Flovent (fluticasone propionate). Doc told me this was the strongest dose she could give me so I'm just wondering if it'll help me at all in the gym. I highly doubt it but I just had to post it because it was bugging me. Anyone know about this stuff? Later, Green

I have asthma, and the drug you're refering to is a steroid. It is not an anabolic steroid. It's a corticosteroid. Anabolics can be called modified synthetic versions of testosterone. These corticosteroids are like synthetic cortisol. They aid in muscle catabolism (breaking down) and not anabolism (building up). So, no it won't help you in the gym (except for breathing better), but don't worry the dosages aren't high enough to hurt your gains either. It's pretty much not going to help or hurt you one way or the other.

No offense, Green, but thank God for Lattimer!

Steroids are a pretty big class of substances, all lipids that contain a hydrogenated cyclopentanoperhydrophenanthrene ring system. Included are ACTH, progesterone, adrenocortical hormones, the gonadal hormones, cardiac aglycones, bile acids, sterols (such as cholesterol), some carcinogenic hydrocarbons, and others.

I tell ya', some of you guys really worry me. Somebody says the "S word" and you start drooling all over your asthma inhalers.

Watch out flovent causes bloating and it sometimes converts to estrogen causing gyno after long term use. I learned that the hard way
