Hey bros, my gym really sucks. I go to a Bally's in NJ. Let me tell ya why. First of all, the dumbells only go up to 85lbs. Plus, they are rubber, which means the 85's are about two feet in length. The markings have fallen off of them, so you can't tell the difference between a 45 and a 65. Besides the dumbells, there is only 1 incline bench and 1 decline bench. Also, I go at 7pm. There is usually a 30min wait for everything in the gym. You normally have to work in with 5 other people. Most of the people there are fat old rich men. Nobody there is on juice. Thank god for this board, it is the only place for advice. I dont even want to tell you what kind of music bally radio plays. The worst part is I cant even go to another gym because of my contract. The only way out of it is death. Does anyone else hate thier gym?

Grunt, make noises and (like BPP said) get big and make them wait for you...

I work out at a health club without all of the hardcore equipment I need to finish a proper workout, but I like to work out in a clean place.

It is fine, even though the dumbbells only go up to 120. Oh yeah, I get a workout walking all over the gym to find enough 45 plates to load the bar for various exercises.

There is one thing I don't like, though. When some stuck-up personal trainer comes up to me after a set of incline dumbbell press with the heaviest weights in the gym and says, "Please try not to drop the weights".
I just turn and politely tell him that I will not injure myself trying to make less noise. Unless he wants to stand there during every set and grab them, then he has no right to tell me that.

I love my gym in general. Only thing I don't like is the music. It's impossible to get pumped up to the soundtrack to dirty dancing.

Mine isn't too bad. Only 100lb dumbells and no decline dumbell bench. They do have all the hammer strength shit and a whack of plates but you still have too do the never ending search for matching plates and shit sometimes.

I work ou tin MID CITY GYM in Manhattan, New York. Its one of the oldest GYM's around, everybody has been there from Arnold to Dorian. There is all of a sudden a cardio swing in an attempt to get more women members.

Why am I pissed? What the fuck is a GYM without a power rack, they took out the power rack. What the fuck is a gym with-out a squat rack..ha ha they took out the squat rack. The calf machines are broken too.

But oooo there are 3 brand new treadmills..who fucking cares.

I just renewed my membership $500 bucks.

Everyone please tear into me, because I know I'm an asshole.

You can get out of it by proving you are moving at least 40 miles away. 85 lb dumbells, thats ridiculous. Just say you are moving and prove it by giving a friends address or something, sounds like you need to leave that piece, also wear a walkman if you hate their music.

i've been fortunate enough to work out in some of the best gyms world wide and the worst. my biggest problem is inconsistancy; every time i get into a routine-i have to change location. very frustrating!! but, what's a boy to do.
i geuss the best advice to give you is to wear headphones with some loud ass pantera and you won't care where the fuck you are.
good luck--keep motivated

My gym's got everything but it's best to train early in the morning which i do.Evening time you get the groups of guys(usually 3 to 5 in a group)who make alot of noise whilst lifting air!!Then you get a mass of cardio snobs who look both confused and puzzled that you're lifting BIG weights. No heart,no balls,no strength.Fuck 'em all!!!

i usto go to a gym like that a while ago, shit i remember when the power lifters usto come in once this fat fuck took my weights off the bar durring my set he said i dont need it, well few years and cycles later i returned to that gym, and of course they still trained there i did the same thing to hiss fat ass and then i asked if he had a problem with that of course he said no and he left cause he knew was about to smash his nuts in with a 80 pound dumbell, lol
well now i work out at the worlds and sometimes it gets crowded, my walkman is realy loud and i blast death metal( cradle of filth) i mean u can hear it over the gym radio so if i see someone talkin while sitting on a machine i just move closer and they hear the musick and they imediatly leve and shake theyr heads, man I go to the gym to train not to look good and talk. sometimes i go in jeans sandals i dont give a fu..

Dudes, I feel your pain, but my gym is the best. I lift at RIMAC athletic center at UC San Diego, its sooooo fucking huge because it has to supply the needs to UCSD's 20,000 undergraduate students, but UCSD has no Division I sports so its not too crowded. They have two entirely separate sets of dumbells in separate parts of the weight room, each has two pairs of everything, on up to 120 lbs. They have at least three of everything I use, benches, cages, nautilus, cables. And its free cause I'm a student!!! And since its mostly college students, there's always chicks doin cardio. They don't play any cheesy fuckin music. The only complaint I have is that all the guys are pussies who only do chest heavy and free. No one does squats or lunges, or god forbid, deadlifts. I go in there to do deep squats or deadlifts and everyone stares like I'm fuckin their moms.

My gym sucks cause I don't have a squat rack. Can you believe that shit! I have to get some really strong fuckers to put that shit on my back when I do them. What a hassle. They say it's for safety reasons. BWahhhhhhhhhhh! Crap

During the summer I work out for free in the school exersize facility. The only bad thing is jerkoffs who dont train correct and will never gain a thing.I also had to clear my own space, lay down a mat, steal an olympic bar and move a weight rack and waits to my section so that I can do deads and cleans. Fuken kids look at me like I am from another planet when I do my workout. Today it was closed for some reason, so I busted the door like I used to do when I got board in a class and worked out by myself. That is the shit. The rest of the year I work out in a club owned by a former powerlifter, everything I need, no long waits, all around good.

I workout at Old City Ironworks in downtown Philly. But I hear ya about those Bally's, you should switch gyms bro. If your in the Bally's in Bricktown then there is a Powerhouse a few miles away. But it doesn't sound like you are from that area.

Deisel:

WTF? Why are you complaining? This is a nobrainer, bro: Kiss your fee goodbye and pony up the dough for a membership at a good iron gym.

You gotta learn priorities, bro. Nothing's more important to your training than having a good gym, not nutrition, not rest, and sure as hell not gear! I can't even imagine why the fuck you've gone back there even once!

Kiss it goodbye, bro, and sign up elsewhere.
End of story.

why my gym sucks....well working in trujillo peru, the machines and weight s are so old, if I brought them back to the states and sell them as antiques...we have the round weighted dumbells, like you see in cartoons, not only are the rusted, the only go to 30 kilos which is 76lbs..there are only 4 45 lb plates 4 25lb plates 2 35 lb plates and 10 machines...well I decided to finally open a gym...I am going to post a new topic and want to hear what is the most important thing or the thing you like or want to see in a gym

Good move, bro! Keepin' your priorities straight. Hope the new gym works out.

Before you plunk down your yearly fee, though, buy a couple of day passes at the Philly club, and visit on different days, different times, get a feel for the place. I live nearby, but I'm not implying anyhing about your prospective gym. Just seems prudent to "try before you buy," is all.

Good luck.

My gym kicks ass! National level competitor owned,4 sets 0f dbs. They go up to 160lbs. 6 squat racks, plenty of space, cardio up stairs away from the hardcore, plenty of chicks to look at,hard rock blaring to keep you going. My only complaint is no air conditioning. But the muscles warm up quicker in the summer and the warmer conditions seem to get rid of all those little nagging aches and pains that the colder weather seems to have caused
