I just moved about a week ago. Well my old house had a pretty damn big mailbox. My new house a mailbox thats mounted to the wall beside the front door. What I am wondering is if the package is to big to fit in there will they leave it at the doorstep or what. I really dont want to have to go and pick up anything at the post office. So do I go look for the biggest one I can find to mount there? Sorry I figure that this may have been asked before, I just could not find the post.

If it requires a signature, like express mail for instance, they will leave it at the post office and you have to go there and sign and pick it up. all other mail, that a signature is not mandatory for will be left at your door.

I got a related question. When you go and pick it up, do you have to show ID? I got it sent under a fake name.

if the package is regular mail they may leave it if they can leave it out of the elements.they may not leave it if the name is different though. i used to work for the post office and some times it just depends on your mailman.if they cant leave they may leave a pick up slip and you probably will have to show id.

I don't think the postman wouldn't leave a package there because it was a name he never saw before. It's not like he has a list of all of the people who live at your house or something. I've had some packages sent to my house that were left on the doorstep with no trouble. But they may not leave it there if it's gonna get rained/snowed on though.
