Quote from Q&A with Bill Roberts on Mesomorphosis.com: How does Clomid "stimulate" testosterone production at the end of the cycle? It really doesnt. Rather, by acting as an estrogen receptor antagonist, it reduces the inhibition that results from elevated estradiol levels. This helps return LH to normal levels, which helps testosterone to return to normal levels (if the testicles have not atrophied).

BUMP. Have read a few places that stress taking other anti estrogens instead of clomid. IP: Logged |

Yes, I've always thought of clomid as a blocker. It'll "induce" testosterone production because it blocks the negative feedback any estrogen would produce by locking on to its receptor. I think the Bill Robert's statement describes exactly what clomid does. IP: Logged |

LH is normally produced in the pituitary and testosterone in the Interstitial Cells of the Testes, and a little from the adrenals. The pituitary has a feedback mechanism between itself and the testes. The messengers are these hormones in the blood. When test levels drop post cycle taking Clomid to boost endogenous test levels takes an indirect route by stimulating the testes to produce Testosterone. So the LH works similar to an intermediate hormone activator. Hope this cleared things up a bit. DecaDemon IP: Logged |

The first post best describes the pharmokinetic actions of Clomid. It falls into the category of drugs called SERMs (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators). They act as weak estrogens in some areas of the body and as estrogens in others. Clomid binds to E2 receptors in the hypothalmus and does not activate those receptors...therefore "fooling" the brain into thinking the estrogen levels are low and to release LH. Clomid will also do this in the female reproductive system, bind to estrogen receptors but not activate them. All other areas of the body, including male breast tissue, Clomid acts as an estrogen. So it should never be used as a prevention or treatment for gyno...hope this helps... IP: Logged |
