Are we a dying breed? Not AS users but bodybuilders. I went to Subway Sunday and saw two overweight people eating sandwiches, and talking about eating healthy. Normally I don't pay this much attention but for some reason that day I did. I decided the next day I would count thru out the day the overweight people I saw. The rules were simple under the age of 40. 126 in a total of 17hrs. Geez is that possible? I am not a fat person basher in fact I rather enjoy seeing a large person in the gym, I think at least they are making an effort. I am from the Commadore 64 and Atari generation, no PC's growing up and athletics were everything. What has happened? I bet 90% of the people on this board workout because one, they like they way they CAN look, and two want to impress the other sex. It makes you feel good so why wouldn't everyone work out? Man this is the only body you got, you can't get another one so take care of it. I hope if anyone reads this I didn't curse you and you start counting overweight people, but man it is sad out there. I guess in the long run we will just keep looking better. IP: Logged |

Hey bro, it started with fastfood. Do you have any idea how much fat is in a Whopper? Or a Big Mac with it's special cheese sauce? And for dessert you get an order of potatoes that were deep fried in grease and caked in salt. A large soda please to wash it all down. When you are bored with a plain burger how about a double bacon cheese burger. Or when your really tired of burgers you can always order a pizza delivered to your house so you dont even have to lift your fat ass off the sofa. There was a report on the news recently about obesity in the US and its been climbing for years and getting worse. I think the stats were somewhere around 33% of adults are overweight. Like you said you only have one body. I couldnt see myself like that. Whats really gross is to see a couple waddling down the sidewalk and imagine how they make love. Like two walruses on the beach I guess. IP: Logged |

Unfortunately, it is true. More Americans are currently clinically obese now than ever before. It did start with fastfood, but it has continued beyond that. Serving size, in fast food restaurants and elsewhere, are larger than ever before. People don't eat until hunger is gone, they eat what is put in front of them. Healthy food or fast food, too many calories of any kind increases one's weight. Granted, people can do what they wwant with themselves, but clearly, obesity is unhealthy and therefore limits one's ability to do the "other" things in life they may like to do. By choosing to be fat, you are limiting yourself greatly. IP: Logged |

Lthrnk, good for you. I bet you will never get as big as you were before, you couldn't let yourself do that. Puc, I hear ya man and I'm not saying what is right and wrong, just the simple fact that the availability to better yourself is there, why not take advantage of it? BECAUSE ITS HARD WORK? If you could get a better job paying more money if you had to work harder would you? I think so, this is just a case where people don't strive to become better, and we do(bodybuilders) and it affects everything we do. Too each his own I guess. IP: Logged |

5setofsix... I couldn't agree more. Fast-food has f---'d up a generation of people in our country. And now we're spreading it to other countries as well. Throw in cable tv, remote controls, electronic game consoles, computers and you got one helluva immobile society! If people had to grow or hunt their own food you wouldn't see very many obese citizens! IP: Logged |

yeah, you hate to be mean or judgemental but from an objective standpoint, go to the mall and sit there and just watch how many people walk by and are overweight. True, people have different goals, but its hard being a bodybuilder to understand why people dont really care about themselves. Also, 20 years ago people weren't so fat because: 1. Not as much stuff on tv to watch. YOu had about 5 channels so most likely you were out doing something outside. 2. With computers and games inside the home kids and adults are sitting around on their large asses and muching on doritos. IP: Logged |

Society as a whole has gotten fat and lazy. We have too many things and life is too easy. Kids today do sit in front of the Tv too much and do nothing.....I may be crazy but as I posted a few weeks back, my kids are limited on TV (video, whatever) they have to read "everyday," they play at least one sport per season, and they are not overweight......The parents have to take responsibility in this.....My kids love sports, reading, and they eat healthy foods ( you will not find chips and sweets at our house, if thirsty drink water). No I am not a drill instructor just a concerned parent. The one thing I do not allow them to do is make fun of "fat people." They know they can out perform them in all physical aspects. I guess I am just saying it is sad the way our society views any type of exercise.......I am off of my soapbox now..... Later IP: Logged |

It's funny when you're flying in another county. When you're walking down the airport concourse, looking for the gate for the flight back to the States, just look for where all the fat people are! They're the Americans waiting to go home. IP: Logged |

this fat epidemic is very pronounced in the US. Everytime i go back there, I am amazed at how many fat fucks are there (esp. at one of our family gatherings...VERY embarassing!!) In Europe, there are some fat people but not anywhere near that of the US. Fast food society in an easy-fix solution. IP: Logged |

the traditional American meat and potatos diet combined with an increasingly sedintary lifestyle . What else do you expect , health clubs and gyms everywhere and we as bodybuilders know that the majority of people who use these facilities are just fooling themselves into thinking there becoming "Fit". What amazes me if the number of just fat out of shape kids in America , my parents never would have tolerated me eating junk food and sitting on my ass all day .... im from the " your going outside until dinner time " generation in guess . BigW, I know exactly what you mean...a few years ago i coached a football team there. Unfortuantely, there were weight requirements for the differnt positions, but still, there were some kids that were in danger of not even making the team strictly on weight! It almost broke my heart to have to call up some kids mother and tell them that little Johnny will not play fotball unless he looses some weight. When I was a kid, there was maybe one fat kid in the whole grade and everyone picked on him. IP: Logged |

It's pretty clear that Americans are becoming more and more sedentary... Fast food and 10 hours a day in front of a computer doesn't do too much for one's physical state. Somehow though, I don't buy the argument that burgers and tech jobs alone are responsible for this trend. There's something much bigger at work - money. Everywhere you look, there's an ad for the latest, greatest, cheapest, convenient meal or miracle diet drug or whatever... When bombarded with this type of nonsense day in and day out, of course a significant amount of people are going to start heading to McDonald's more often. After all, they can just pop into 24 hour fitness a couple times a week, or better yet, pop some Stacker 2 and hit the ab-roller for a while! Right? I'll look like the guy on the commercial in no time! This kind of reasoning sounds ridiculous to the bodybuilding community, but is being presented as fact by almost every mainstream source of information out there. Americans aren't overly lazy, ignorant, or unmotivated - They're being blatantly lied to by a few big companies who are suckering them out of their money. IP: Logged |

Bro's I will agree in that even here in the uk kids are getting fatter also the amouth of girls i see in the nightclub i work at dureing the weekends are getting bigger and looking more pear shaped than 8 shaped. And they all say "Its not my fault im fat" and wine on about there weight and how they can lose any of it what a load of crap if you want it that bad you can lose it but most of them think that they can go to the gym lift pansy weights till it just starts to ache and they say well thats enough for me or they get on a treadmill and do a fast walk for about 15 mins you know the type. I just cant see how people can let themselfs get like that in the first place I mean you should love yourself enough to care what you look like as your body reflects what is inside and if your fat and over weight and do fuck all you will get labled as a fat lazy fuck and its not to far from the truth cos if you where not a fat lazy fuck your ass would be down the gym working hard to your goal. I dont mean to offend any fat people that are trying to DO somthing about it i have a world of respect for you and whish you all the best in your quest for perfection. I just dont like the ones who bitch about it but still do nothing..! ------------------ IP: Logged |

50% overweight 33% obese are the stats in the states! When ever I venture outside my home I can't believe how many people look disgusting and dress the way they do. Get some respect for yourself, educate yourself, and change. I also can't stand the whinners that do nothing about it but whine more. We need more physical education in the schools at an earlier age as well. This would install a mentallity in these kids that would alter their future lives. I would make it simple if you are involved in a sport that season you don't have to go to this exercise class unless you want to otherwise 3 times a week your exercising for 30 to 40 minutes all year! The really sad thing is that the percentage of children that are obese is around 33%. That is their fat ass parents faults too. My kid will not play on a computer when he is young. He will go outside, he will climb trees, he will fold up lawn chairs and put sheets over them to make tunnels, he will camp out and will get into trouble. He will not sit in front of a t.v. 24/7, he will not eat potato chips, he will not be pasty and whiney and get his ass whipped by the poor kids who have to play outside cause' they can't afford a playstation. My kid will be active and in shape and I will teach him how to exercise properly. That is what all parents should be doing, but I guess they don't want to be fat all alone. Fuckin' stupidity. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Bro's it takes a special type of person to be able to get their butts in and out of a gym every week. You have to have a will to succeed and a desire to accomplish things. People look at us as the weird one's, but we care about our apperance we strive not to be that "regular anybody" that you see everywhere. It takes that special someone to alter your physique and all of us should pat ourselves on the back. IP: Logged |

I don't know what you guys are complaining about, geez. The more fat people there are, then inversely, the less fit people there are. Thus, less competition for us when it comes to the womenfolk. I don't know any pretty young girls under 25 that are chunky, in fact... the only fat girls I've ever noticed are the ugly ones. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the positive words all. I'm just lucky it seem to me anyone who wants to do something they can but first they must try. I'm helping a 21yr old kid now its been 1 yr and he lost 60lbs so far. It's not bad for a kid seeing they tend not to know what they really want but I think he will do fine. LTHRNK YOUR THE MAN!!! LET ME SPEAK FOR THE FAT PEOPLE. I KNOW FAT PEOPLE THAT SAY THEIR HAPPY, BUT I DON'T SEE HOW THEY COULD BE. AS A FAT PERSON I WOULD KILL TO BE ME - THE FAT. I WILL GET THERE, BUT UNTIL THEN I DO I AM ONE OF THEM. ANYWAY.... I DID THE SAME THING. I COUNTED THE THIN PEOPLE I SAW WHEN I WENT OUT. NOT MANY. TONZ 'O FAT PEOPLE. I MAY KNOW A REASON. NOT "THE" REASON BUT A REASON. THE COMPANIES WANT YOU TO BUY FAT PEOPLE FOODS. THEY ARE CHEAPER THAN FOODS THAT ARE GOOD FOR YOU. I KNOW I WILL GET A BIT OF FLAMES FOR THIS, AND YOU GUYS WILL SAY I'M MAKING EXCUSES (I AM) BUT THEY ARE MORE $$$$ TRY TURKEY vs 2 WHOPPERS. TACO BELL vs WHEY. METRX BARS vs CANDY BARS. ITS ALL A CONSPIRICY TO GET OUR $$$$. THEN YOU GET FAT AND CAN'T GET LAID (OR DON'T WANT TO) THEN YOU BUY XENADRINE AND THE LIKE. I HATE BEING FAT AND WOULD CUT THE SHIT OFF MYSELF IF I THOUGHT I COULD. BUT TILL I SMOKE THAT MUCH CRACK THEN.... I'LL STICK TO DNP. SORRY TO RAMBLE ON AND ON BUT THIS SUBJECT REALLY HITS HOME. I SEE THE GUY ON THE SUBWAY COMERCIALZ AND THEN LTHRNK TALKS ABOUT HIS TRIUMPH OVER THE JELLY ROLLS AND I JUST GET VERY JEALOUS(sp). Oz, I never intended this discussion to be negative towards fat people, just negative towards the idea that the opportunity is there and people don't take it. Your comment about healthy food costing more is ludicrous. I might eat a whopper on Sunday(my cheat day) but never cause its less expensive. You are saying exactly what I don't understand. You won't spend a little extra money for your diet, common. Get a SAMS card for crying out loud and buy wholesale. Have you ever read all the posts about guys not wanting to go out on a date because it would interfer their eating pattern, thats the dedication I'm talking about. IP: Logged |

Start education in the schools? You need to start it in the school cafe. The amount of fat allowed in the kids lunchs is way to high. We started at home, none of my kids are over weight. Why because we eat correctly and stress to them to do the same at home and when they are out with friend. My son works out 3 to 4 days a week. My daughter will be starting soon. *** Can't control the world just your corner of it.. IP: Logged |

This just came across me. The reason us bodybuilders are always bashed by other people IS because our society is fat, lazy and unmotivated, whereas we are busting our asses everyday with training, diet, sleep, supps, you name it. They dont understand and they dont what to, the just look at you, and you just know what they must be thinking, but at the same time you are looking at them a thinking,'how disgusting can someone get'. I think about this at work at my summer job. Here I am eating like 7X a day with tuna, chicken, steak and here they are with their McDonalds and sodas and it makes me sick. Just joking around they make fun of me for my diet and habits. I would have to say that at least 50% of the people I work with are decently overweight. Well, thats fine with me, I love the way I am. Right on WCP, I agree. In Utah, and other states as far as I know, they've cut down recess time in schools by 20 minutes, for more "educational" time in the school? 20 minutes isn't a lot. But it's 100 minutes a week. 400 minutes a month. 3600 minutes in a 9 month school period. IP: Logged |

I work at a Vitamin store part time, as a personal trainer and at a Ford plant full time on the assembly line. All I see in that plant are very obese people eating out of the vending machines. Everybody drinks during lunch, constantly have a cigarrette in their mouth and a twinkie on their lips. It really disgusts me. I am the outcast because me and a friend of mine take turn bringing in lunches for each other. His wife cooks something and brings it in or vice versa. I don't smoke and only drink occasionally. It cracks me up to look at all of the people in there who don't take care of themselves, and they are making fun of me for being a bodybuilder. All I have to say is that I respect myself, do they???
