Feds regularly scan through random free e-mail accounts looking for illegal activities. They have a special division called ITEMS or the Illegal Transaction E-Mail Squad, who do nothing but read other people's e-mail all day long. The best way to communicate and the safest is what I call the cups and string method. Simply mail yourself an end of a piece of string and a styrofoam cup. You hold on to the first end of the string and attatch your cup to that end. And then conduct business by speaking through the cups. Seriously though, DONT BE SO PARANOID! Youve got better odds of getting it with a Playboy bunny and hitting the lotto on the same night. [This message has been edited by YellowD98 (edited July 24, 2000).] IP: Logged |

Fuck'em. The odds of them reading mine are so slim it's retarded!!! Even if they do what are they going to raid my house for my own personal stash? I think they're looking for sources more than anything. Later, Green IP: Logged |

Juiceseeker, The FBI? Unless you are part of a federal investigation and the Justice Dept has gone to a federal judge and asked him for a warrant to read YOUR mail for 180 days (after that they have to tell you they were reading your mail) I think the Playmate/Lotto combo has a decided advantage in terms of odds. J...punch up FBI/NSA on the keypad and then add the keywords 'carnivore' and 'omnivore'. Those are the two programs that are email blackbox apps. At present, omnivore is not being used. Carnivore is right this minute in operation. You are entitled to know everything that is within the sphere of public domain and not in the sphere of National Security. You can write a letter to your congressman and request full disclosure about 'Carnivore.' Info will be sent to you immediately. If not, contact him again and mention the Freedom of Information Act. Incidentally, most of the methodology of eavesdropping is patented, and is available for leisurely perusing in the patent library. Also, there are several websites that are dedicated to distributing knowledge purely for education's sake. Try Hackershomepage for starters, and punch around through those links. Interesting stuff, to say the least. To answer your question about FBI reading email...You betcha. All day long. IP: Logged |

here is a interesting spin...can the FBI monitor this board to see things like "i just got my gear today" and use that as the probable cause? I would think they could. And, since most of our e-mail addy's are here, they have a great and easy trail. ?? IP: Logged |

YEah and they listen to all phone calls made too. Crazy shit. I just love how people get paranoid about this. Just keep your inbox empty if you're worried. They won't stick arround if you only have a few in there. LAter, Green IP: Logged |

Here IS THE SOLUTION..! If i was dealing over the net (Which I am not) I would use PGP as the fuckers cant crack it Unless they have about a year and a fucking huge Mainframe and your not big enough to warrent that kind of attention. The ONLY way they can read your email is if they have your private key other than that There is no way for them to read your email if you PGP it up..! If your really PARANOID like me you will download the source code for PGP and check that the feds ok uk goverment have not put a trojan horse in the source then compile the program...! That way you can be sure your protected as the FEDS have/Do have comercial email programs that they have a trojan horse in that will enable them to look at your email or get your private key but what those are I dont know. But you would only need to go to that extent if you where a big dealer...! As you would be fakeing your IP address when you hit this board along with your location but thats a bit over kill and lots of work..! ------------------ IP: Logged |

No, No, NO They cannot read your personal e-mail unless they have a warrant from a judge. The same priciple is applied to your telephone and your personal mail. They cannot just go reading peoples e-mail unless you are being investigated but they still must obtain a warrant to do so. I heard that it is hard for them to obtain a warrant to read e-mails. If they did read your e-mail that would be all that they could do with it is read it, it could not be used against you. Buzzzzzzz IP: Logged |

Yes the feds can read your email. They can also shoot you, maim you, break into your house, tap your phone... you dont' seem to be worried about those other things.. Why? cuz why the hell would they bother doing all these things, even though they do have the powers to do so? john IP: Logged |

Extreemrush, It is possible that it could happen like that but I think the possibility is very slim. The Superhighway(Internet) has become the breeding ground for all types of crime. Do you guys realize that this thing can never be shut down, they cannot kill it. Right now If I had to guess, I would say that the main concern of the F.B.I on the Internet is national security. They are trying to combat the hackers who are trying to steal and sell our secrets. I am not saying that it is not possible but I am saying the odds of the FBI spending man hours trying to track down a dangerous steroid crimminal who talked about" getting his gear today" on a disscusion board is pretty slim.
