![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I saved this from another post: Author: DeMarcoDMAN ([email protected]) To answer your question right off, T4 is less taxing than T3 on the thyroid. Normally, the thyroid glands make more T4 than T3 anyway, due to the fact that T3 is the biologically active form of thyroid hormone. Now as to which is better in terms of supplementation. It would have to be T3 based on which was said to be the biologically active hormone. When T3 is really needed, it is converted from T4 to T3, and then you get the effects of thyroid hormone. Now what if you took a whole lot of T4, well in that case there is an enzyme in the body call Type 1, 5'- deiodinase which is responsible for the conversion of T4 to T3. The more T4 you have in your blood stream, the more enzyme you will have doing the conversion. The enzyme levels are seenn to be very high in individuals with clinical hyperthyroidism. This enzyme is found in the liver and kidney predominantly. In essense, take the T3. However, if you are taking anything androgenic, you decrease the binding affinity of T3, thus decreasing its ability to do it's work. Hope this helps and not confuses. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() your body can only convert so much t4 to t3 at one time due to the amount of the enzyme in the body. YOur ability to burn fat is limited to the rate at which the enzyme converts the thyroid hormones. Synthroid does still work however. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() T3 is 5 times more potent than T4. As the other posters stated T4 is a storage form of T3, and as T3 is used and excreted more T4 becomes converted to T3. BUT on a diet, when calories are restricted, the body begins to reduce the conversion of T4 to T3. This is done to maintain LBM, and is the reason one sees a dip in body temperature (metabolism). So for best results one should take T3 since it is already the active form. I hope you are aware that anabolics should be taken with T3 to reduce the amount of LBM that can be lost. P.S. Lipokinetix contains T2 (diiodothyronine), which may be the responsible compound for increasing metabolism (T3 may convert to T2 in the tissues). It has a slightly lowering effect on TSH levels, but still causes suppression. IP: Logged |
