Uugghh, thats way off. Thats almost 3000 calories! For a 174 lb guy thats too high. To diet Id go 1.5 grams of protien per lean pound of weight, and not over 10 grams of fat. Mabye a tbsp. of flaxseed oil in the AM for EFA's. Then that leaves about 250 to 300 grams of carbs a day. Make em fiberous carbs and if you do have some starchy carbs make sure theyre not after 6 oclock PM. That should put you at about 2000 calories. If you use any gear that will make it even better, but even if you dont it should work. Cardio before your first meal would be great and keep on training heavy...

My opinion differs...

I lose fat and keep muscle on low carb diets. I like to follow an iso caloric diet or a Keto diet...

Iso is 33% of each three so for you that would be 250g prots, 250g carbs, 111g fats if taking 3000 cals.

Keto is no carbs so 30% protein and 70% fat. With post training meals at 30% protein with 70% carbs...
So 225g proteins, no carbs, 233g fat...

after training have about 40g protein and 80-90g carbs with no fat...

For amount of calories start with 16xbw and adjust from there...so start at 2800 and either increase or decrease slowly according to progress

I'll have to disagree monster. His caloric intake for that diet is 2225. Thats about right. As the weeks progress, keep dropping your carbs.
