I am on my first cycle. (Mexican Deca) I am on my fourth week and have noticed growths in my upper thigh groin area. Went to doc and told him about everything. She told me my lymph nodes were swollen and that I might have cancer or HIV. Damn I only 20, don't want to die yet. She does not think it was the juice. Has anyone heard of getting swollen lymph nodes in this area as a result of juice, or a bad shot, or an infection. Please help so I can sleep at night. Thankyou. Also, my next shot is tomorrow, should I take it or what? [This message has been edited by dieselnj (edited July 18, 2000).] IP: Logged |

it could be localization from an infection from the juice. I doubt its HIV or Cancer. Get on the antibiotics ASAP. IP: Logged |

I think that your best bet is to do what ever tests your doctor recommended and also go to another doctor to get a second opinion. On a brighter note, I'm not positive on this and your doc would know better, but I believe that that could also happen from a non-sterile injection, but as I said, I'm not sure? ------------------ IP: Logged |

i wont necessarily question a doctor, but damn, does this doctor have any sense? lymph nodes can get swollen from many things. worst case is HIV or cancer. ever had tonsilitis? swollen lymph nodes. i would get a second opinion and if you find this other doctor is more thorough, shitcan the old doc. thats pathetic. im not gonna belittle what you could possibly have going on with your lymph nodes but i would think it is AS induced, suppressed immune system. go see another doc if you can tomorrow and get some blood work done to set your mind at ease with the HIV situation. best of luck. Unless there is more to this story that you didn't tell us, I think your doctor was way out of line to scare the shit out of you without first doing some tests or finding some other symptoms. I wouldn't stop at getting a second opinion. I'd probably look for a new doctor as well. IP: Logged |

Yeah, I have to agree. The big scare with nothing to base it on (no test results) is bad tactics (bedside manner). There are plenty of infections (anything in the general inguinal region) that could account for it including perhaps some bacterial prostatitis, bad diverticulitis, colon problems etc. Most any STD might cause it - chlamydia, herpes, etc. It is also possible from non sterile injections if you are hitting the upper thigh. I remember getting the cancer scare in 1997 due to some back pain I was having. Turned out to be some deteriorated discs and herniated discs. It can scare the shit out of you. IP: Logged |

I hope your doctor had you take an HIV test and ran your blood for other infections including "cancer" if that's what he/she's diagnosis was. I have the same problem from the wonderful time I spent in Africa hunting terrorists for Uncle Sam. Are the lymph nodes in your neck swollen as well? Lymph nodes will swell and can sometimes be tender due to localized infections, it could be from injecting in your glutes. Also if the lymph nodes in your groin are swollen it could be due to an STD. I get shingles on the back of my leg every 8 months or so when my immune system is way down. It makes my lymph nodes in my groin swell and hurt. If you've ever had chicken pox, you can get shingles as well. AS can screw up your immune system, especially if you have alot of stress in your life. Have a full blood screen done for STD's, HIV, etc... Are you sure there's nothing dripping out of your buddy? hehe IP: Logged |

Bignate is right, dump the quack you saw and go see another MD. Sure HIV and CA can cause this and so can 100 other illnesses. The MD is an asswipe for speculating terminal Dx based on swollen lymp. and not hard clinical evidence.(lab test) IP: Logged |

I had the same thing about 3 months ago. It was a small knot around the hip-flexor area.I thought it was a hernia, but it was nothing more than a swollen lymph node fighting off infection. Get another opinion . ------------------ IP: Logged |

some similar shit happened to a close friend- doc scared the shit out of her by telling her that she may have liver cancer. turns out the doc was an idiot for making such a diagnosis on such limited info-get another doc. good luck. IP: Logged |

yes, these lumps popped up pretty much over night. I am taking the blood tests this week. Should I take my next shot now or hold off? If it is life threatening, I want to at least look my best when I die. IP: Logged |

I think you can get swollen lymph nodes (if that's what it is) from fighting off almost any infection (cold, flu). This doctor's comments are like having a mild cough and being told it *could* be lung cancer. I agree about finding another doctor. I especially would not worry about HIV ... unless you have very specific risk factors (and you would know if you do), it is very very unlikely, and swollen lymph nodes are usually not the first indication. If you just started your cycle, you may want to hold off until the cold or mild infection is gone, then start again. Do not worry too much, ok?? I guarantee you will be fine. IP: Logged |

I am amazed the doctor would diagnose HIV or cancer without doing any blood tests. That's absurd. I had swollen lymph nodes from a throat infection. IP: Logged |

I wouldnt worry. I've had the same symptoms before, however, not from AS, in the same groin area. My dad's a doc and just asked him about it, and he told me it was probably just an infection of some sort. Its just an immune response that most probably was caused by a nonsterile injection. I would go for some antibiotics. dont sweat it! IP: Logged |

that is very careless & "a bit of jumping the gun" for your doc to say that without a blood test or anything done- I would get a new doctor because that is total BS- screwing with a persons mind like that over something that is a false alarm......you can have swollen lymph nodes from a multitude of things- illnesses......go to another doctor.
