hey jersey, my boy...Ihad the dame problem with aol...You see, I have a cardinal 3440 56K modem. It is X2, NOT V90..there's a difference..if you use X2 connections with a V90 modem, (or vice-versa) you will not have a strong enuff connection..Check what type modem you have, then check connection number to see if it is X2 or V90..some will say V90/56k..others X2/56K.. try switching fromn the one you are currently using...hope this helps... -D IP: Logged |

To hell w/AOL. No matter how many "upgrades" they do, they have so many subscribers that the lines stay packed and you never get a fast connection. Odds are it isn't your computer, it's AOL. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I have a Conexant SoftK56 Data, Fax PCI modem. What ever the hell that is. I know it is an HP pavilion with a Celeron processorI don't know where to look up any further info concerning X2 or V90. IP: Logged |

I agree with that ecto. Check out the commercial...it states on the fucking t.v. that time may be limited during times of high volume. I think the choice is clear. See ya AOL.

I work for an internet company your connexant modem is a very shitty software based modem. Other software based modems are HSP micromodem, Motorolla SM56k, Rockwell and Lucient or LTWinmodems... I don't know about AOL I don't think they have a dailer in Dial Up Networking but if they do or for anyone else with a software modem try this...For AOL if there is no dialer do the same thing but in the control panel under modems. Double click on my computer. YOU HAVE A SOFTWARE MODEM WHICH MEANS IT USES SYSTEM RESSOURCES. NO MULTI-TASKING FOR YOU...RUN THE LEAST AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS POSSIBLE. IF ALL ELSE FAILS CALL THE TECH SUPPORT AND THEY WILL HELP YOU FIX IT. IP: Logged |

DREXX is right, connexant sucks. I build computers and I have had nothing but headaches with them. AOL does suck especially for this type of discussion board. They are geared toward keeping you on their servers and not on the internet. BUT if you get DSL or cable they are not AS bad. Those of you who are still on dial-up modems (about 86% of those on the internet) you will look back and laugh at them after you get "fast internet". It's like from B&W TV to high definition color. Well thought I was the only one having this problem but I guess not. I use CompuServe, which is basically AOL and for the last 3 months have been getting disconnected at least 30+ times per day. Yesterday I switched to my local phone companies Internet access and not one problem in 2 days. But CompuServe swears the problem has to be on my end right. IP: Logged |

1. AOL blows, and has always blown 2. I have 784 ADSL and the board has been a bit slow the last few days, so it's not your cable modem's fault or your ISP. 3. Any device that uses system resources (software modems, software based RAID ctrl, etc) blow. 4. NetZero kicks ass, and there are other free internet service providers if you have some strange aversion to NetZero IP: Logged |

ATTENTION: You will thank me for this. Save yourself some money. I've used it before, it's free, it's fast, they don't EVER kick you off, and there's no pop-up banner you have to look at. I can't think of one good reason to pay any money for a modem connection after I tried it. IP: Logged |
