The ? is this. If I can get in my 300 grams of protein daily(theoretically thats 8 shakes with milk at 1600 cals total) then why junk myself up with 4k -5k calories? The calories and carbs are for energy but if energy is fine on avg food intake(2500 cals) and 300gms protein I should still grow on a cycle. Bottom line:muscle growth is from excess protein not excess cals... Is there a flaw in my logic?? IP: Logged |

When you're juicing, or even not, your body needs a lot of energy to grow. Besides the massive amounts of energy you use in the gym, your body is doing about a million things at once. In order to keep optimal growth occurring, you need lots of extra energy. If you don't have enough, your body will have to resort to fat, and god help you, muscle tissue to try to repair itself and that takes more time and energy. And if its bulk your after, whats a few pounds of fat compared to the massive amounts of muscle you can achieve? [This message has been edited by YellowD98 (edited July 15, 2000).] IP: Logged |

find your LBM (lean body mass) eat 2x that amount in protein, then use a 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein. you should grow if you start gaining too much fat drop your carbs a little. eating clean complex carbs will make you grow faster and stay leaner. IP: Logged |

I want to remind you guys that ingesting excessive amounts of protein is hard on your kidneys. Thus, DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!!! If your kidney's fail....your screwed. You will have to be on a machine the rest of your life. You may have been igesting protien without drinking plenty of water and thinking everything is fine...it may not be. It is unlikely that they will fail immediatly...it happens over time. I remember the first time I started eating massive amounts of protien. I was eating lots of beans and slamming shakes. One night I woke up in serious pain. My kidneys, intestines, and nuts hurt like hell. I suffered no serious complications only a weeks worth of pain. Now I ingest all my protein slowly over the entire day...and I drink water like crazy. Just a friendly reminder from the "Good Doctor" IP: Logged |

I agree with the poster. I think so long as you get sufficient cals(3k+) and enough protein for your weight(300+ for a 200 lb man) you will grow. I dont think you need to kill yourself with cals. Just my opinion. IP: Logged |

high cals. will increase gains because of carbs. when your pancrease releases insulin for the carbs, insulin breaks down after it has done its job. insulinaise is a byproduct of insulin and it blocks cortisol like a mofo. thats why high cals. and A.S. are such a synergistic combo. if you take A.S. without high cal. , you are giving your body a chance to negate the A.S. and prevent growth.
