I see many mentions of people's body fat %. Just wondering if oyu guys are spending the dough on immersion tests, a Tanita scale(which I hear is not accurate for people with a lot of lean mass due to the bioelectrical resistance of muscle vs. fat), or if you ar eusing skin folds. I would be interested to see what formulas you are using for skin fold tests. I've come across so many, but few seem to take very many measurements from all over the body. Anyone have a formula that takes into account like 7 or 8 measurements? IP: Logged |

Tanita scales SUCK ASS!!!!! I spent a lot of $$ on the best one and it royaly sucks! If I didn't pay so much for it I would have throwen it in the damn pool already. My BF% changes about 8-10% a day on that hunk of shit. It also says that I'm like 30% sometimes and that's a frigging joke! Don't waste your $$ on these. Later, Green IP: Logged |

Those electronic bod fat scales aren't for us. My boss at work bought one, and he's a gear head too. That thing was changing the readings everyday. We had higher bodyfat then the overweght slob that drives a truck for us. So, I called the mfr. of one of those pieces of crap. I was then informed that they are not designed for bodybuilders. Thechip in the thing does not calculate for large amounts of muscle mass. Its' programmed for what they call standard male/female muscle mass to body proportion. Like when you go for a physical and the doctor says this to you: "Well, you are 5'10" and the scale reads you are 230#. according to the standard guidelines, at you height with your bone structure, you optimal weight should be between 165# and 172#. I didn't weigh 1605# in 12th grade. What a f@*&%$g juke. ------------------ "Pain is weakness leaving the body>>>" IP: Logged |

I have found that the dunk tank is the only way to go... My cost is 25 bucks a dip and for me it's well worth it. IP: Logged |

I have my training partner do the calipers at seven sites on me every saturday morning. This way I know how much cals to consume and I adjust my cals as needed. I am starting a cylce shortly and I want to eat enough to let my bodyfat rise from 8-10% in those 6 weeks. The bodyfat test helps me to know exactly how much to eat... I didn't answer the original question because I didn't feel like it Seriously I use a little program called bodycomp i think you can get it off download.com it has all the major equations not very fancy but a usefull little program. If you really want the equation look it up under Siri and Jackson and Pollock. I can also type it here but it is long and I am tired. the bodycomp program you speak of is just and access database. The formula is based on tape measurements, not skin folds (that sucks) I took your second bit of advice and pulled down an excel sheet with a great program on it, quite similar to one I had used in the past, but lost when I ran my old PC into the ground. Thanks. If anyone wants the sheet, email me, its GREAT IP: Logged |
