Anyone know how to do a "Farmer's walk or Farmers carry"? It is supposed to be for grip strength and I think it is done with dumbells. Other than that, I'm at a loss. May be powerlifting specific, I don't know. ------------------ IP: Logged |

You pick up the heaviest pair of bells on the rack and carry them until your grip gives out. IP: Logged |

Start watching the World's Strongest Man competitions on ESPN2. You'll eventually see it but they use things the size of missiles with thick handles that are hard to grip. IP: Logged |

I love watching strong man. Those guys are, well, strong. But not one of them has one ounce of aestetic appeal. I miss seeing Magnus Ver Magnuson. He was unbelieveable. PS are you all serious about just grabbing and holding dumbells till they drop? ------------------ IP: Logged |

I add these in every now and then as a burnout for legs. After a harcore leg workout, I grap a pair of 110s or 120s and walk around the track for as many circuts as possible. Sometimes I'll use straps if my grip is tired. It's hell on the system, but in a good way. Really kicks in on the legs if you've already hit them hard. BTW another fun burnout for legs is to go out and push your truck around the parking lot (with somebody steering of course). Did that just last week -- my partner doubled over and puked on the lot -- it was hilarious! Give 'em a try -- you won't regret it! IP: Logged |

LOL. Those were the days. I remember pushing my workout partner's car around on leg days. It was an Accord. When I drove, he always wanted to do Back and Biceps. I think he was afraid to push a '69 caddy! IP: Logged |

Forget Magnus, Bill Kazmier as the craziest MF ever. He's still huge and is pretty lean for a stronman. IP: Logged |

THE FARMERS CARRY: Pick up a couple of heavy dumbells and carry them around the perimeter of the gym and re-rack them or put them down on the floor before re-racking. Work your way up each work-out until you're using the largest dumbells available. If once around the gym doesn't tax you're grip, try twice around, or until you are " grip challenged". This is also an advanced grip exercise, so don't get too enthusiastic with the weight on this one until you've built up some history with it and exercises like "hanging from an overhead chin bar for time" and/or "reverse curls for the top of the forearm". For more grip work, do Power rack deadlifts and hold for 30 seconds. For more on this article about John's Grip Work click onto Dave Drapers web site: www.davedraper.com/grip-work.html IP: Logged |

It doesn't seem like it works the forearms any harder than deadlifting w/o straps... IP: Logged |

Read the article at the Dave Draper web site of "John's Grip Work". Recoome can you walk around you're gym with a couple of 150# dumbells? This isn't for grip work but if you want to blast you're forearms try "ROCKERS" with 40# dumbells for a minute, if you can stand it! IP: Logged |
