After finishing a course, what level fat percentage do you need to get back down to for your abs to show. I am after a realistic level for more of a toning level not bodybuilding level......cheers.

I do good whenever I get it under 10%

It entirely depends on the individual. Some guys can show slight abs at 12%, others need to get to 8% for a good show. If you're below 8% and still no abs, I would seriously question your method of BF measurement!

I always consider it safe to say 3 rows of abs = 10 % fat

"3 rows of abs=10% bodyfat"? I don't think so. I have been at 9% and 2 rows barely show. Some people, I.M.H.O., hold fat in different areas of their body.

Guys you can't ask for an absolute answer on anything which is determined by an individuals genetics. Everyone is different. My abs show well all the way up to about 12 percent. Others won't show until they hit around 7-8. It depends on your ab structure and how your fat distribution among other variables as well.

Usually between 8-12% bf most people will show some. Get the abs to show and then
squeeze as much water from your system-this usually gets mine to show a lot better.

You can see my abs when I am as high as 12% on the calipers. But to see them all nicely about 8%.

My training partner gets down to 7% and still doesn't see all his abs.

It depends on the fat distribution...

So redE2grow....how do you know that you were at 9%...most people under estimate theree bdft% by about 5% and at 15 % you would be luky to have them show.
Here is a good test for you pinch the skin on the back of your hand, now do the same on your thigh about half way up...they should be the same at around 8%.

Hey deepsquat on the back of my hand my skinfold is like 1.5 on the calipers and my quad skinfold is about 10mm and I am 8% bodyfat with the calipers.

I do the seven site siri equation in the morning before eating...

Okay, you are not going to like this! The last time I had my fat tested was on 8-3-97 by a company in tacoma washington,called Sankor , they use an ultra sound machine and it measures the thickness of the fatI had the following thickness 6 millimeters on my thigh and 10 millimeters on my waist....worked out to 13.3 %
Most of the people that used them were fat women and not bodybuilders,because the guys would hate to hear the higj figure that they would be told ....usually 5% higher then electrical impedence or skin calipers....The lowest they ever tested wasa middle weight at the emerald cup( A national Qualifier)he tested at 4.8 % That is out of 1000S of people over the years.

Good post Deep Squat, I like the info. I've always wondered about some claims like such and such football player is such a powerhouse and ripped at only 3% bodyfat. How in the hell could a pro survive a season with only 3% bodyfat. Some numbers always sounded goofy to me. Again, thanks for the good info.
