Hey guys... I've been to mexico a few times to get gear and never been caught. Recently one of my friends asked me what happens if you get caught. I think they take your gear and give you a fine but i'm not sure. I was wondering if maybe anybody else knows the laws and what they really do? IP: Logged |

It really depends on how much they catch you with and what kind of mood they are in. There are several different things that can happen, all the way from paying a fine to sitting in jail. Well, Mexican law is very much different than U.S. law. There are no due process rights in Mexico, so technically they could let your ass sit in jail for trying to bring back just one amp of test or whatever (and they don't have to bring you before a judge or even supply edible food -- always a good idea to bring that extra cash). Typically, however, you'll only see jail time if you are bringing back enough to be charged with "intent to distribute" instead of just mere "possession." There is no black-letter law on what the distinction is. Most of what I hear is just people's gear getting confiscated, and they usually get a hefty fine and are sent on their way. All I can say is, I would not recommend bringing back (hypothetically speaking, that is, if someone was attempting to stay out of jail) more than a 6 to 8 week supply at one time (unless of course you're a pro and inject 5grams of shit a week). And notice that even though you're at the border, your ass will sit in a Mexican jail and us criminal defense lawyers here in San Diego can't be of much help. So, just don't get caught. Kalkid, the US customs regulate what comes back into the US, not the Mexico border potrol. Mexico has a border partol for going into Mexico. Most likely unles you have a retarded amount on you if you're straight with them and be polite you'll get off with a fine. If you have an attitude and have a lot on you count on wearing handcufs for the day. Oh and they like to check out anyone who looks like they are there for roids.
