   c'mon hes just plain spamming the board. look at this kerrywood2: REGISTERED YESTERDAY HAS 280 POSTS! kerrywood3: REGISTERED TODAY HAS 330 POSTS!! mods.. how about banning ALL e-mail addresses from registering like no one from hotmail.com or hushmail.com or yahoo.com can ever register here. so bassiclly BAN ALL FREE E-MAIL COMPANIES!!! if you want to register everyone knows you get a FREE internet service like AOL, or your local internet service like my e-mail is [email protected], thats my Internet company, so who aggrees? no, you dont get it. The people who alreasdy registered wouldnt be banned. Only the people who try to register, with that internet e-mail company. and if anyone else wants to come they can use there company e-mail they got when the recieved the internet. IP: Logged |

ok lets say for example "Billy bought the internet from iwantheinternet.com and when he bought it he got the internet e-mail address [email protected], he goes to this site, and starts spamming it. George then bans billy. George then goes to www.iwanttheinternet.com and he sees that you can not get a free e-mail without buying the internet from that company. So george doesnt have to not let anyone register with the e-mail ending in @iwanttheinternet.com. IP: Logged |

fist off you cant block someone from a email address. all the programs look for is the @guest. portion. so i could use [email protected]. the company dont exist but the board will never know that . so it is a loosing battle. if youi go somehwere and you dont want to give out your addy at all just type in [email protected]. or whatever you want as long as the @ sign and a name is behind it exists IP: Logged |

well.. superdave if he banned that you would still be here unless you got banned once, then theres no chance you would ever be of coming back. So if you get free internet service.. then it would go like this EVERY 2 WEEKS GEORGE WOULD UN-DO HOTMAIL.COM FOR ONE DAY ONLY, THEN WHOEVER WANTS TO REGISTER HERE WOULD COME ON THAT 2ND WEEK. THEN IF SOMEONE STARTS TO SPAM.. THEN A MOD WOULD BAN HIM THE NEXT DAY AND TAH DAH HE COULDNT COME BACK, NO MORE SPAMMERS FOR 2 WEEKS AND THEY WOULD ONLY SPAM FOR ONE DAY, NO MORE THE REST OF THE 13 DAYS WOULD BE SPAM FREE!! Don't worry about the exessive post's by some members. It is not a race to reach 10000. Some memebers might think it is. But it does not matter how much you post.... but the quality of your post and how much it cotnributes to the board or an individual is what matters. grr.. ok george with this company message board can make them send you a password when you register (like DT14342) then in order to succesfully register you would have to check your e-mail get your password. Go here, log in, edit your profile, change your password to whatever you want. therefore, if you do an anonamous e-mail (like [email protected]) then you would not be able to check your e-mail, therefore you would not be able to get your password, therefore you would not be able to register! and i very strongly doubt theres 2000 free e-mail addresses.. I have trouble finding 5.. hell i only know of yahoo.com hushmail.com and hotmail.com I would have to take a long time to find a free one.. then you would have to do it over and over and over.. if the guy still tries to come and probably takes over 30 minutes tring to find 5 other different e-mail addresses, hes a dumbass. and George would just ban all the e-mail addresses that guy tries to register with.. sooner or later.. hes gonna quit. Wouldn't it be easier to block his ip -address. Even if he is behind a proxy server, I think it can be done. Blocking Hushmail, Yahoo, Hotmail: 90 % of the users has there an email address. Jeff ------------------ IP: Logged |

There are two things we can do: 1. We can have the system assign and email passwords to users. This would ensure all users have valid email accounts. If we blocked an account, the user would have to create a new hotmail account each time if he wanted to abuse the board again. 2. We can allow only one account per email address. George, the more steps they have to take the better. But your programmers will tell you it's a never ending battle unless you use some form of validation other than emails ,like credit card numbers, but I'm not advocating that. You can get 100 email addresses in less than hour. If you type that fast. I still think it's up to your guests (us) to ignore them and they'll go away. IP: Logged |

Jeff_rys You can block an IP address but IP addresses are assigned to ISP's (like AOL) in blocks of 255. In AOL's case 20 million. If you use dial-up to connect your ISP assigns you a number dynamically. In otherwords they rotate you to the first available number in their block. Note: the ISP knows who got which number when from their log. But they don't have to give up that info without a warrant. IP: Logged |

The password idea is fantastic, and will work. The more steps one has to take in successfully utilizing this site and its discussion boards, the less likely immature idiots are at wasting their time ruining certain aspects of elitefitness.com. how about a credit card check? I dont mean paying for the board but using credit cards as a way to keep kids off. You could make people present a valid credit card to get an account just like those shopping sites, where you get a username and password, and you can fill your shopping cart any time and they just accredit the purchase to your account. That way you could keep the idiots out and make it easy for people to go and shop at massquantities at the same time. IP: Logged |
