Some info on CFS and athletes: (I wish it was all in my head like you claim, but its not) And since athletes are generally more in-tune with their body, they are also more sensitive to the symptoms of CFS than the general population. If you've ever encountered "the wall" as a runner or other distant athlete, CFS can be the biggest wall of all walls. In athletes, the cause is often linked to the Epstein-Barr Virus, which is transmitted from person to person by close contact such as kissing, sharing a water bottle or coughing. At the on-set, most athletes initially complain of a failure of recovery from exercise. Other signs and symptoms include fever, sore throat, appetite loss, swollen lymph nodes, and enlarged liver and spleen. Impairment of short-term memory concentration, insomnia and muscle pain may also occur. A diagnosis is confirmed from history, a physical exam and some very specific blood tests. The normal course of the illness is 3 weeks to 1 year, and the longer it takes to make the diagnosis, the longer it takes for treatment and recovery. The most common error is exercising harder in the hope of improving fitness, but this usually makes the condition worse. Also, the diagnosis can only be made after alternative medical and neuropsychiatric causes have been excluded. There is no known drug that cures chronic fatigue syndrome so treatment consists of diet, vitamin supplements and a carefully monitored low-level exercise program. Exercise must be restricted to 20-30 beats below anaerobic threshold. It is important to keep a training diary and exercise with a heart rate monitor. Recovery is monitored via resting heart rate, exercise heart rate and blood tests. For example, exercise or activity is increased if resting heart rates stay the same or are decreased. If blood tests show an increase in EBV-IGM antibodies, exercise is often decreased. Thus, it is important to consult with a physician early to determine fitness level and blood antibody status. hey bro, good info, my mom has Epstein-Barr Virus but I don't understand. She is really really tired all the time and it doesn't get any better ever...I think she would have said something, if u could get it from close contact, like sharing a glass. And my dad doesn't have it, so I don't understand? LP ------------------ IP: Logged |

TBM I posted this address once before I think. It explains everthing. I tested positive for it 3 times in 2 years. With me it lasted 4 weeks but it can last longer depending on how well your body fights it off. Once it goes away it's unusual to get it back. Lack of sleep while cycling caused me to get it. Chronic is altogether different I'm sorry about your Mom I know what she feels like all the time. I'm sorry for her. http://www.healthlinkinfo.com/health/E_Epstein_Barr_Virus_.html IP: Logged |

your mind is a very powerful thing. Do not believe everything you read or hear, especially about CFS, epstein-barr, borrelia, fibromyalgia and other things of this nature. Once you are labeled and you actually believe, its all down hill and there are few who come back from it. Im not saying that there are not legitimate causes of what you are describing, and you might be right on the money, but really try not to focus your thoughts on this, it will be like a snowball effect, things will start happening and you will blame all on this "diagnosis". You may be a good candidate for an SSRI. Stay positive and I hope you start feeling better. IP: Logged |
