   I was only wondering the other day that i hadnt seen one of my buddys from the gym for a while! Today l learnt that he is fighting for his life in hospital. They currently got him on a life support machine. I was told that he had hit the gear quite hard, developed a cough shortly after starting his course and then caught pneumonia. Apparently His immune system was down and then he caught a cold that his system couldnt handle! I didnt realise Pneumonia was so serious! I hope he is going to be alright! He is one of the nice guys out there! Can i get some info from one of you guys on this! Does taking steroids damage the immune system? It must do for this to happen but surely anyone could get pneumonia, are we more prone to it as steroid users? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Seems like a fishy diagnosis to me. Doctors have been prescribing Deca to HIV patients due to its potential to increase both red blood counts and the immune system. IP: Logged |

I have also read docs perscribe anadrol for facial wasting in HIV patients! But AS does weaken the immune system so anything could happen. IP: Logged |

Ive been thinking the same thing Gymrat! When im on the gear, i NEVER get a cold. It's almost like my immune system is BETTER for being on the kit! O.k yes sometimes i get a 2 day flu, as i go on it but that's expected! But pneumonia, jeesh! ------------------ IP: Logged |

First of all I'd like to wish your friend a speedy recovery. Now to the question. Do you know what and how much he was taking? Certain steroids, especially over time, can suppress the immune system....if you find out more, keep everyone posted. IP: Logged |

Man, there is no telling why he got sick, If someone finds out you juiced they are going to say thats the root of everything that ever went wrong in your life just so they can fault you and not show any compassion. If you get sick, dont tell a doctor your using A.S. cause they will quit look'n for the real source, just an easy copout. M.D.s dont learn SHIT about anabolics in school. I have several friends who have been on deca with HIV and I've seen them go from skinny 120 sickly kids to 180 pounds. They never get sick anymore. It must be improving something. IP: Logged |

Pneumonia is still one of the top 10 causes of death in the USA . I think it is number 8. At the turn of the century Pneumonia was one of the top THREE causes of death in the USA. The fact is it is the Penumonia that is making him sick. However they are looking for a reason he might have Pneu and are pinning it on the AS. Did he smoke? IP: Logged |

Yes i think Steroids are being unfairly blamed. There could be one of many factors involved on many issues! As long as he comes through that's all that matters! He is comatosed at present, has been for the last 10 days. As soon as he gets better ill let you know! ------------------ IP: Logged |

I would think the two aren't directly correlated. He may in fact be one of those who has the propensity towards a weakening of the immune system when something foreign is introduced exogenously. If anything I would speculate that the gear was bad or he was already sick. Anyhow, my best goes out to a fellow iron warrior.

The one thing that sucks about AS is that they effect us all in very differnet ways....in fact, the same drug in same dosages can have dramatically different results on two different people...that is one of the main reasons a board like this is so beneficial...everyone can discuss actual results and effects... there are way to many variables that can effect the immune system to blame steroids...for example, bad diet, overtraining, stress, smoking, drinking...combinations of all of them...any one of them could have caused it... but, he was on the juice, and he is real sick, try to find out the cycle...we could all benefit from knowing and discussing the riskiness of his decisions..... what was he taking? The withdrawl effects if the gear is not tapered down correctly can be devastating. Your immune system can be severly compromised at this time. Usually people who just take Suspension will crash rather hard. Always taper your dosages or have long acting AS on board. The longer you are on and the more you are on the more you should taper. Your friend will be ok. Pneumonia may have developed secondarily, but im sure he is on excellent antibiotics which will clear his lungs up soon. IP: Logged |
