I drink skim milk during my low and moderate carb diet. If I drink a cup of skim milk with my meal, I will just eat 12 fewer grams of carbs.

Some say that dairy products tend to make you look "smooth" therefore it's not a good choice when dieting for a contest. Another reason is because of the lactose (which is a sugar) is not a good choice of carbs when on a low carb diet.

If you're really trying to get ripped, you may want to stay away from it. But when trying to gain muscle mass without gaining fat, I say go for it. Just my .02

Skim milk is fine when cutting. even on low carb cause lactose is fairly low glycemic.

Hell skim milk aint nothing more then water with a little chalk mixed in. Now you know where all that eraser dust goes from school.

D007, lactose is actually high glycemic, it's the castin that makes milk a low glycemic food because it curtles (sp) in your stomach and slows digestion of the lactose. This is why castin is said to have anticatabolic properties, because of the slow digestion and absorption of the castin, which in turn slows digestion of the high glycemic lactose making skim milk low glycemic.

That's a good point. When you mix a so-called high glycemic carb with protein it actually makes the body see the carbohydrate as a lower glycemic carb. So, I assume milk is fairly low on the glycemic index even though it has a sugar in it (lactose). Personally, I have had no trouble with it when on a lower carb diet.

just stop drinking the milk, if u want to be cut up u have to sacrifice, start drinking some diet pop or crystal light. my rule when i am dieting is to stay away from sugar as much as i can. almost 100% of the carbs from sugar, and if u love milk that much i doubt u are only going to drink 8oz a day.

I'd doubt he's drinking milk because he's thirsty. He's probably drinking it for the protein.

Seems to me whenever you drink your calorie sources it is less satisfying than the full feeling derived from solid food.. Whole bulk type foods requiring lots of chewing are best for cutting.

I have heard from a personel trainer that dairy products slow down your matabolizm. So in retrospect, it wouldn't be good to drink dairy while trying to cut. I don't believe in that so I drink it anyway and still lose pounds.
