I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE DRUGS ARE ILLEGAL. I MEAN SMOKING IS PROVEN TO BE BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH BUT IT IS LEGAL. WHY EXACTLY DID THE GOVERNMENT WANT STEROIDS ILLEGAL?

Regrettably, there is a great deal of misinformation about AS, which leads them to be rejected wholesale and banned rather than examined in greater detail.

It's not just perceptions and reputations. The "prestigious" New England Journal of Medicine actually published a report that claimed AS HAD NO INCREASE ON MUSCLE MASS.

The misinformation is not only in the government. It is in the medical community, which has considerable lobbying power in DC.

Furthermore there is a dominant ideology in the US that believes that the government should be able to tell us what we can and cannot put into our bodies. Hence the "war on drugs" (don't get me started on that) and the illegality of AS.

They are not completely banned, and actually, the regulations on them have loosened up a little over the past 10 to 15 years. They can now be had through prescriptions, as they have shown positive influence in the wasting situations acquired through HIV infection and some cancers.

This is an excerpt from Tmag, Brock Strasser is interviewing Rick Collins the guy that started the STEROIDLAW.com site

BS: Let's take a look at a little bit of steroid history. How and when did steroids become controlled substances in the United States?

RC: Back in the 1970s and 1980s, federal regulation of anabolic steroids came under the jurisdiction of the Food and Drug Administration under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Anabolic steroids were required to be prescribed and dispensed by licensed physicians but weren't scheduled as controlled substances. It's often overlooked, however, that black-market drug trafficking of anabolic steroids was already illegal before anabolics became classified as controlled substances. Under 1988 legislation amending the Food and Drug Act, criminal penalties were specifically set forth for traffickers in anabolic steroids for non-medical reasons.

This Anti-Drug Abuse Act would have enabled effective enforcement against those illegally dispensing steroids and black-market dealers, including application of federal forfeiture laws, without classifying steroids as controlled substances. But, in the mid-1980s, media reports of the increasing use of anabolic steroids in sports, including a "silent epidemic" of high school steroid use, came to the attention of the US government. Congress grew particularly concerned with steroid use among high school students and top amateur athletes. Certain
members representing only a small minority of the medical community began suggesting controlled substance status for anabolic steroids.

Between 1988 and 1990, Congressional hearings were held to determine whether the Controlled Substances Act should be amended to include anabolic steroids, along with more serious drugs like cocaine and heroin. The majority of witnesses who testified, including medical professionals and representatives of regulatory agencies (the FDA, the DEA, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse), recommended against the proposed amendment to the law. Even the American Medical Association repeatedly and vehemently opposed it, maintaining that steroid abuse doesn't lead to the physical or psychological dependence required for scheduling under the Controlled Substances Act!

BS: Wait a minute, if most of the experts were against scheduling steroids as controlled substances, why did Congress do it?

RC: A review of the transcripts of the hearings suggests that health-risk concerns were secondary considerations to Congress. The most influential witnesses who testified were representatives from either amateur or professional athletics. Their testimony and, apparently, the main concern of Congress focused on legislating a solution to athletes who "cheated" with steroids in sports competitions.

Congress devised a solution-amending the Controlled Substances Act-and planned to proceed with or without the blessing of the DEA or the medical community. As a result, steroids stand out as an anomaly among the codeine derivatives, central nervous system depressants, and stimulants that form the rest of the Schedule-III substances. The Anabolic Steroids Control Act of 1990 was signed into law by President Bush as part of the Omnibus Crime Control Bill. The law applies in every federal court across the country. It places steroids in the same legal class-Schedule III-as amphetamines, methamphetamines, opium, and morphine.

They must not know what they're missing in taxes. They should make it where you can go to the doctor, have him check for any potential health risks (kidneys, liver, etc.) then the doctor can prescribe the AS and the accessories. Then they can tax our eyes out and quit screwing with us.

Just my $.02

Why? Maybe because they are very powerful drugs that even when used correctly have powerful side effects. Also the fact that if abused they can be potentialy deadly. I realize smoking/drinking are terrible but the line must be drawn somewhere.

Lexicon,

Seems as if you are claiming that you agree with AS being illegal. Naturally you are entitiled to your opinion.

I disagree. I also se your reasoning as flawed. Virtually any drug can be deadly if abused or misused.

Yes, "the line must be drawn somewhere". But believe very firmly that the drawing of the line should be done by the individuals.....it's MY body so how about I draw the line?? If I want to subject myself to abnormally high test levels, then who really should have the authority to tell me not to? After all, if I do harm myself, I have to live with that.

I also believe rec drugs should be legalized, for the same reasons. I wouldn't use them, but who am I to tell you or another person what to do to themselves?

I mean, cigarettes are legal, harmful, and nicotine is as addicitive as almost any illegal drug, yet I don't smoke.

How about letting people decide for themselves, Lex? That's my position.

Here are some thoughts, In the last 14 years there were 2.3 million Rapes reported.
That is just the ones reported.
In San Diego last May there were,
854 car jackings
133 Rapes
715 Violent Crimes
Imagine Scumbags like these on Test and Halo!
This is probably what lawmakers think about.

Arm E Man,

I agree with you that Rangers definitely lead the way.

But I disagree with your other claims - most lawmakers don't havew a clue what Halo is - all AS is just lumped into one big catch-all word: "steroids" which represents monster bodybuilders and roid rages.

Not to mention that if you look at the demographics of who is committing the aforementioned violent crimes - mostly poorer people - they are highly unlikely to be interested in AS......

Shit, viagra has offed a bunch of old farts since its been out. The bottom line is congress does'nt want a whole bunch of fat assed soccer mom bitches marching on Washinton cuz Jhonny can't handle his juice!

Look at it this way, and things will brighten up for u. The way I see is I'm glad there illegal, that keeps all the punk teenagers off them, cuz there hard to get, and if your buying from a gym dealer, they are too expensive also. If they were still legal everyone would be on, and muscles wouldn't mean anything, cuz everyone in the gym would be a descent size. That thinking has really helped me deal with the situation.

what kind of nonsense reasoning is that dude? so you are saying all your gains are form steroid use alone and all the teenagers are punks!??!?! So you want all the advantages for yourself and deprive of others what you have? I say you are just as bad as the Congressmen who ban roids but still chug big jugs of alcohol and blow smoke up their ass like fat hoes.

And why would government wanna ban steroids? simply put, cuz they are dick-sucking bitch-ass hoes..

Steroids are the governments scapegoat. When they can't find a better answer for an illness they will blame it on steroids if you used them. As a matter of fact a girl I know was telling me about how her son has mental problems because of all the steroids his father took. It was the biggest bunch of bullshit I had ever heard. She told me that was the only reason she could think of that he would have them...and then she tells me about how she takes medication for the same problems. How blind is that. It's obviously heridatary but it makes her sleep better at night to think it was steroids. The best advice that I can give anyone is to never tell your doctor that you are on or have taken steroids. If so, when you come to him with a problem he will automatically assume that the reason for the problem is steroids and dismiss it as that instead of searching for and diagnosing the real problem. Later you'll be suffering at home with a bladder infection or something that could have been wiped out clean and painless but they are too stupid to see past the stigma of steroids.

I don't know if you guys heard yet but I heard that Clinton just signed a bill that will make all andro products Schedule III narcotics right next to steroids. He is a fucking idiot. I definitely agree with Matt that it is our body and that we should have the right to put what we want into our bodies. I thought that this was suppose to be the land of the free!!!!!!!!! This country is on its way to an anarchist country because there is less and less rights out there for us, and everything is going to the black market. They are also trying to make guns illegal. What the hell happened to the Bill of rights......did congress roll it up and smoke it or something.........Sorry if I offended anyone with my language I am just extremely pissed off right now about all of this............must be ROID RAGE!!!!!!!!
